Good God! It's the O-Wing!

Ok, so i got pissed off at it and passed it to my detailing expert, Hawkhart, who spent ages tricking up the panel details and adding pipes, wires, etc to the ship. I finally got around to remembering it and eventually stuck some textures on it and here it is. I didn't design, Rob Wilson did, so direct your wrath or praise his way about the overall look of the thing. Any praise can come the way of myself and Hawkhart however, I'm nothing if not vain. I was a bit heavy-handed with the film grain though, but I dont give a fuck as it's nearly 2 in the morning and I'm knackered.

Apologies for the time it took Rob, Hawkhart and myself got caught at a bad time and haven't been making much of anything until very recently, I'll mail you later anyway and maybe explain a little. In the meantime I was thinking of using it in a little battle scene, and maybe sticking it up for download at my webshite if you're amenable so that others can use it for pics and movies should they so wish.

Seems almost more of an attack craft than a bomber.

Kick-ass work!

Address all design issues and threats to Rob, I just thought the sketch had potential to be something a little different. In these times with 3D amateur modelers everywhere, we find ourselves looking for something out of the ordinary, the road less travelled. That little sketch was it.

I wonder how hard it is to paint or repair the center section in the middle of the O...and what all that space in there is used for. Components? Cargo?

Good work to you and your crew Kenny. Looks like a production model. Now add some pits, scars, missing panels and scorch marks and it'll be a real Rebel fighter

It is neither, just a comment. The B-wing and Y-wing are both heavier fighters, like I was talking about.

Shouldn't a [letter]-Wing have wings though? :D

Well...it has one big, round wing and Y-wings don't have wings at all :)

No, but they have wing-like structures, sorta.

Wait, perhaps its not "Oh"-Wing, but "Zero"-Wing? That would solve everything... :D

Looks a lot like the Herc from Freespace.

Wow, good timing. I just used it in a short story. Looks good though, the detail is astonishing  .

Yeah, some aging would be the final touch but frankly I'm not sure if I should. I don't believe Rob had this pegged as a 'Rebel' ship as such, it was more of a pre-Empire all rounder that anyone could buy. I have the image maps started for dirtying it up, I'll post pics of that tonight or tomorrow.

I say... those are some beautiful textures! Ever try getting a professional job for that?

Eh? Those are just the base textures made using what's known as procedural textures, basically fractal generated stuff you can play around with in Lightwave. The only actual image based texture is the one I used on the engine nozzles to give the scorched look. I'm going to redo and apply the actual image maps tonight for the decals and aging effects over the whole ship, stuff like burn marks, scratches, etc.

To me it looks more like the Gunstar from "The Last Starfighter."

Nice, very nice! The whole evolution from drawing concept to finished product is very enjoyable.

WE WANT AN ANIMATION!

I plan on doing one, I dug out the old setup files for the test animation I originally did and it might still work, but it needs a lot of tweaking to get right.
