Same here, apparently Bob picked a host that doesn't allow hot-linking (shame, shame). It seems to be looking ok so far.

Yeah, they do look like Honor Harrington ships, don't they?

I, for one, can see where the name "Salamis" for the class comes from.
But if you're looking for a serious critique on your skill, don't. All I can do is look at 3D modeling and say "Neat. Wish I could do that." :(

Looks good. Do the towers really fit on the hull? They seem just slapped on.

Also, it seems there are a few mesh errors with the current light rig, what software are you using?

Here's what a Salamis-class should look like:

Looking good so far, Bob.

Ah, ok. A little modelling around them is needed to "pretend" they belong there.

Personally, I prefer the Salamis-class refit that appeared in 0083:

Sleeker, better armed, and with a less blatent color scheme.

It looks a little too blocky or bulky or something... :?

Whatever it is, it just doesn't look right to me.

Uts and I have one of the original ~1980 model kits from Bandai in storage. It's old but the detailes are pretty much perfect (Japanese quality for you :) ). Maybe I can get Uts to dig it out and make scans or I can on the weekend.

Yeah, me too :p

Anyway, I have the Salamis's big sister, the http ://planetoxford.greatnow.com/magellan.jpg Magellan-class Heavy Cruiser. I've tried to rectify the "too-blocky" complaint Spanky had with the help of the Chamfer Edge button, but I'm not sure :\ Tell me what you think.

The EFS Birmingham from UC0083: Stardust Memory. Three hours (so far) and the model is starting to take shape. I'm really proud of this one because I made it all from one object, instead of booleaning things together like I usually do. Also, it's much cleaner than earlier ones. Baby steps.

Hmmm.

Doesn't look much like the Birmingham yet. Keep at it.

What program are you using?

Keep going, mess around a bit with a mesh smooth modifier, just a tad, not much, just to get rid of those hard edges.

Hooray for detail!

http ://planetoxford.greatnow.com/birm2.jpg

At this point I'll probably add some detail, play around with textures, etc. Poly count is over 11000, but if you take away the turrets it's only 2800 :) I'm a bit annoyed, because I want to add detail to the superstructure, but the only reference shot I have is too confusing :\

The lazy person's answer to texturing :) Make a box and then do a Face Map. I'm planning to give the Birmingham a 0079 look, because I think spaceships should have more color and I don't know what it looked like in 0083 :\ I'm not sure if I'll keep the racing stripes.

No bumping. It's not as if there's alot of traffic, and your thread disappears from the 1st page in 12 hours... --Beowulf

Why isn't anyone replying? Is it me? Or is it because the only images are shitty gmax screengrabs.

Well I took care of the second part ... so somebody say something.

Please?
