Weapons fire VFX tests. Feedback needed.

Some weapons effects test for 'Dragons' and for my collection in general. I need feelback. Which effects work for you? Which need work? Too generic? Too flashy? Not flashy enough? Obviously LODed? Specifics are greatly appreciated.

Effects were created entirely in Maya. They are all prerendered image sequences applied to static objects for dramatically reduced rendertime, but I'm afraid this approach may look too videogamey.

DIVX. 2.41 megs.

EDIT: I apologize if my post was rude. I don't like Angelfire too much, and I wanted to see your weapons test :D

EDIT2: Now it works. But I can't see the video because my DivX codec got b0rked. Time to reinstall the POS...

The link told me the page I was looking for spontaneously combusted.

Try it now. It got a little over zealous and posted before it had finished uploading.

After watching the video:

The beam is good as it is.

The particle pulse isn't though. I think having a light-colored "inside" would be good. So that it's white on the very inside and darker towards the outside.

Particle flak: unless it's supposed to be that way, I think there should be a bright and very brief flash, followed by what you have currently. Adding some small debris around the explosion would be nice too.

Plasma beam: I think the pulsating movement shouldn't be static as it is right now, but moving forward:

-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o

if the o's are the more rounded parts of the beam, right now they're immoving, but I think they should move forward with the beam to give a better impression of the beam consisting of stuff that's flying out towards the target.

For the plasma artillery, I think the shot should be "fuller", not "thin" as it is now. It is artillery after all, it should at least look like it has power behind it.

For the plasma flak, I'm not sure. Take it whichever way you wish.

Just thought I'd give you some feedback.

Particle Beam: Looks good. Only thing I might alter is have the beginning of the beam a bit more sudden, instead of the gradual increase, parhaps a bit pulse like at the beginning.

Particle Pulse: I agree with Shinova, there needs to be an internal glow to the pulses, with it getting dimmer near the edges of them. The solid color just doesn't look quite right. Also, the recoil (or what looks like recoil) of the gun needs some work. If it's not intended to be recoil it seems like the barrel is actually slightly out of place when the gun is firing.

Particle Flak: Again I agree with Shinova, there should probably be a bright and very brief flash followed by the current effect. Also, the way the current effect looks, it rather reminds me of something exploding under water, not what you'd expect to see in outer space. Instead of having those "clouds" collapse in on themselves like that, they should just continue to spread out and fade.

Plasma Beam: I love it! I think this effect looks fantastic just as is!

Plasma Artillery: Also looks good, though I think the Plasma "bolt" should be bigger, particularly width-wise. Also might consider making it tear-drop shaped.

Plasma Flak: Each of the bursts seems too static... Don't really know how you could fix that.
