That was 2 years ago, I now have 4 bikes and more XTR parts.
Basically, the minimum you must be prepared to spend for a trail worthy bike is about 500 $. A bike above average means spending more than 1000$ (for comparison, my old bike cost about 2000$, and my new one costs 5000€).Captain Lennox wrote:Nice. I've been bike riding around lately so I don't turn into a lardass. I was was riding down a half steep slope (coming off the road onto a trail) and I hit the controls for the chain resistance. Needless to say to the steel tensiles popped and now the chain is loose and doesn't move right there. I think I need a new bike? How much does it coast for something of decent quality or above average?
Send $330 to my Paypal account and I'll ship you a $500 bike from my shop storage room. Assuming US dollars, decent quality starts at around $400, that'll get you a solid entry level bike. Average for me is defined as where the bike has all (Shimano) LX & XT parts, which is around the $1100 mark. Above average is when the bikes are full XT or better, which'll set you back about $1500 or so. Frivolous is when you run out of things to upgrade and start buying titanium & carbon fiber parts because you can, 2 of my bikes have hit the "frivolous" stage (I work in a bikeshop) and I really don't want to know what they're worth these days.Captain Lennox wrote:I think I need a new bike? No I don't have a bike fetish, I'm just really enthusiastic about bikes and the technology that goes into them. Also, I work in a bike shop so I get everything at store cost, which is why I can afford all the good stuff.Zac Naloen wrote:um.... aerius... do you have somekind of bike fetish?
