Beautiful! :D Got a High-Rezz version, say circa 1000x800 pixels?

I'll custom fit it.

1000x800

Should half the planet not facing the sun be lit that well? And the day/night line is rather erratic.

And where else would one find a planet? :P

Pretty, though.

theres maybe more than one star? :p

the terminator is not eratic, is just that the planet, if im looking at what i think youre seeing, is not equally as relfective in all places. the terminator itself is a perfect ellipse.

Beautiful picture. BTW I think the sun should be a bit to the left and larger. That would make it look better.

Kojikun, how do you do that?

Well theres this fantastic dude, names Greg Martin. He does some beautiful shit, better than mine. He writes these tutorials, one on starfields one on planets. You can actually search for "realistic starfield" and the first link is to his site.

So anyway, I used his tutorials, but I modified the planet one by using map overlays of Mars and Venus instead of brushes. If you try to create all the planet texture on your own you'll just fail miserably because theres so much intricacy and imperfection that gaussian clouds and other filters just don't compare.

I have some other smaller versions based of his planet tutorials, but neither is as nice, nor as big.

What about graphics programs? Which one of those do you use?

Photoshop 7. Tho I think any version of photoshop will work, as would GIMP, I believe. I have not really used GIMP, I'm not keen on the right clicking and the lack of a single main window.

It looks really nice, but the planetary geologist in me can't help but wonder about how the weather and life would be different on a planet with large oceans at both poles. :P

And those wicked linear bands of vegetation, is that just what happens when you color-tint venus?

Theres no polar oceans, theres no oceans at all, actually. its just some colouring. No real land-ocean shit. And the bands you see are actually venus' atmosphere/clouds with the fill down to like 10%.

I figured. That's probably not a very friendly planet, then.

75% of the planet is obscured, and the predominant colours are green and blue; aren't they "friendly" colours?

The planet is VERY friendly. It gives you candy. :P
