I copied that picture into Paint and used the eyedropper to confirm it. Crazy indeed.

When I first saw that one, I didn't believe it... until I put it in Photshop and found that they both had the same RGB value!

I just did the same thing. I love when the human brain makes assumptions that aren't technically correct.

Urg. I did my Physiology final on optical illusions today. Gah.

It's still cool, though.

There's an easy way to defeat the illusion. Put your finger along the edge of the shadow that's cast by the green cylinder. Now look at the 2 squares again and they'll appear to be the same colour. Fun stuff.

I'll have to take your word for it ... I still see them as different.

Those are pretty neat optical illusions, although I don't get the last one with the two Mexican guys.

Stand back and you'll see an old woman's face facing an old man's face.

aerius: I find it same as Crown. :|

Or if you stand back further, you can see a golden goblet.

Didn't have to stand back at all for that one.. just need to take your focus off the sides.

Thats because the optical illusion is caused by the surronding squares being darker, not the actual edge of the shadow.. i think >_<

And for those that can't see the old man and woman, click here.

you know, that cylinder-shadow illusion; if you cross your eyes while looking at the squares so they overlap, they dont look the same colour, the look quite different. clearly its more than just the false assumption of difference, but rather, actual manipulation of colour by the brain to make it different.
