SD.Net Wallpaper

Anybody got any submissions for SD.Net wallpaper? I tried making one up myself; let me know what you think.

EDIT: added a second version based on the input so far, with slightly altered opacities and a slight "shadowing" effect around the SD.Net letters to make them stand out more:

EDIT 2: Please note that the true resolution of the image is 1280x1024 pixels. For some reason, Internet Exploder resizes it to half its real size, with a shitty scaling algorithm. You have to click on the image in Internet Exploder and tell it to display it at full scale to get a good idea of how it will look on your desktop.

EDIT 3: A GIMP native file-format version, so you can play around with the individual layers for your own amusement. Beware: it's nearly 2MB.

Dude, that's fucking awesome - though the end of Stardestroyer.net is washed out.

A few pixel stroke around "stardestroyer.net" would make it stand out from the stardestroyer in back of it. Also, I'd make the symbol a bit less transparant, or use a different blending mode. The Star Destroyer is recognizable enough that you can afford to block it a bit more.

I'll get to work on a SD.net background of my own. At least put it on the queue of projects that I'm working one.

OK, I tried altering the opacity and adding a centred drop-shadow around the text to make it stand out a bit more. How's that? Or is the Imperial logo too bright now?

It looks good... I wonder what changing the blending mode would do to it if you play with the layers and set the symbol to either a burn or dodge mode..? I need to stop thinking now.. -stabs illnesses-

Is that a predator font? Cool anyway.

A bit sparse possibly, a nebula picture from hubble or something could be cool in the background.

Excellent image. I think it would look even more awesome if a wing TIE fighters and smaller capships were added in the background implying that this Star Destroyer is the command ship of an Imperial battlegroup.

Keep in mind that with wallpapers (presumably to go on a computer desktop), you need some blank space to keep all of your icons.

I've always not been sure about the red Imperial logo- isn't red the colour of the vile Rebellion?

Mike, I think that looks totally awesome.

If you need a good starfield, I can whip one up real quick.

EDIT: I can see the lines where the Star Destroyer picture was dropped onto the black background. You may want to touch that up.

I agree that the logo should be the standard blue (red is just too distracting for a wallpaper) and that the font should be changed. That font looks great small, but blown up it is a little bit of an eyesore. I'd say stick with some kind of block lettering though.

Mike, where did you get the Imperial insignia from? I've been searching all over for a good, high-res shot of it. Do you by chance have it in a vector format?

As for a starfield, just open up Gimp and add some black-and-white noise to the background layer. Then invert the layer and play around with the levels until you get the field you're looking for.

Looks good! Do you have the ISD by itself? I can give it a try with my own tools and methods and see how it comes out.

You can turn that feature off. In IE, go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and uncheck the box next to "Enable Automatic Image Resizing."

Blue= Imperial Navy
Red= Imperial Army
