I had a spare hour at work today so I thought I'd waste it by making this little animation showing the Beagle marsprobe 'soft landing' on the surface of the fabled red planet.

It's 417k and DivX format. Just for giggles

Why does everyone feel the need to use DIVX?

The thing doesn't play for me. It opens Windows Media Player and says I don't have the right decompressor.

Get the newest DivX, which should be version 5.1 or something.
It's the best of the bunch so far.

Because it's good.

I used Div-X because anything else comes out at 2 to 4 times the size and no better in quality. Believe me I've done tests, encoding the same animation over and over in different codecs to check quality and size, and nothing beats DivX. I liked the older versions of DivX myself, the new one seems to rely on Xvid being present as well. If you have DivX and still get the codec error I'd suggest getting the latest DivX and Xvid codecs to sure it.

No, silly. Standard MPEG with no funky codecs! It's simple, it works, and it'll play on anything you run it through.
