So, I decided I am going to try my hand at a digital painting, which is still very much WIP. So far it's taken me an hour, but it's looking pretty good. Done entirely in PSP 7.04.

Suggestions? I think the nose looks a bit awkward, and I'm still trying to shave off the blockiness of the eyebrow..

I really wish I could give you advice that was useful. I'm no good at drawing smiley faces, let alone doing anything with the computer artistically; I can't even figure out PhotoShop. However, from what you described, it's getting there.

Thanks. I know it's not much, but it IS my first attempt at a digital painting. Right now, I just resized the whole thing to twice the size, and have been working on the smoothness of the eye, the eyebrow, and the nose, as well as the shadow behind the nose. But I haven't uploaded a new version just yet.
