My first cel-shading (and somewhat-close-to-good sketch).

Well, a post on another forum failed miserably, so I'm going to try to post here. Since we're all SD.net, I'm thinking we will be alot better at making things, um, constructive. As long as what you say actually helps to make me do better, then I'll be
I already know that the nose is horrible, he's missing eyebrows, and the forehead needs resizing.
Sorry if I'm a bit irritated, but...long story. (link deleted by GoldenFalcon)

Um, doesn't really look like cell-shading to me.

I... don't know what exactly to say here.
First off, don't expect to become a master graphics artist overnight. You have to work at it, and... that... is at least a start.
I think a better thing would be to hone your sense of perspective and whatever by sketching things out by hand. Once you get hand-drawn sketches to a reasonable level, then go back to the computer (possibly with a graphics tablet, mice kind of stink especially if you're used to paper) and learn how to transition what you know to the computer.

Oh, duh, I remember. That's not cell-shading because cell-shading is related to CGI and CG animation.

I must've gotten the terms mixed up, sorry.
Everyone who wants to comment, feel free to say anything like "IT SUCKS LOELOLOLSDGDZZZZ". It pretty much doesn't matter now.
Forget constructive criticism.

Don't be an ass, Spanky. This is still considered cel-shading, the style is what he's going for.

I wasn't trying to be an ass. I was more thinking out loud to myself. Additionally, I was thinking of the actual medium cell-shading is applied, rather than as a duplicated style applied to hand illustrations.
My apologies.

why would this be considered cel shading? cel shading is AFAIK a term only aplied when there´s a 3D model behind the image which in tis case it´s not.

He's referring to the style of shading he's using. It is also called "cel-shading" it is characterrized byusing less colors and sharp transistions instead of smooth coloring.

Except that salm and I are correct: that this technically isn't true cell-shading, which referes to a rendering method used in CGI.

Yes, but what is your point? Do you want him to not call it cel-shading anymore?

My point was just regarding correct terminology, nothing more.

So you're just being anal-retentive.
