For the Halo fans

First and foremost this work was done by The Axeman at SB.com. He posts under a different name here but I don't remember. Also remember this work is a first rendering and some aspects will change and be fixed.

I've always liked the Assault Rifle from Halo, but a few things about it irritated me.

One, the flashlight should be a grenade launcher.

Two, there is no way to sight the weapon with no scope or iron sights.

Three, the pistol grip is way to close to the stock and that makes the weapon much less accurate at range.

Four, the weapon should be massively more useful then the pistol meaning more accuracy, more range, and more power.

Well thanks to The Axeman, I was able to adress some of these issues.

After only an hours work modeling he came up with what he termed the MB5B

Gentleman, I introduce you the MB5B 7.62mm assault rifle.

The weapon has a modular type body allowing for a variety of changes. The main barrel can be changed out for a longer barrel allowing the weapon to be fired at much longer ranges with more power. The scope mount is adjustable and a variety of scopes can be placed. The standard scope (which is shown) is a variable use IR illuminator, red dot, variable magnification (1.5x-5x). Single use scopes as well as sniper scopes can be attached.

The grenade launcher as shown is a tube fed semi-automatic loading 25mm launcher capable of holding 3 rounds. Each grenade is equal in power to the standard fragmentary grenade and detonates on impact. Aproximate range is 10-300 meters. The grenades should not be used under 10 meters and can not accurately hit targets beyond 300 meters. Another funtion of the grenade launcher is the ability to set it to detonate at a specific distance or altitude giving the weapon air bursting capability. The grenade launcher can be detached and a standard hand grip or a forward vertical grip can be attached in its place.

The stock of the MB5B is a heavy duty extending skeleton stock allowing for accurate long range fire as well as being useful in close combat situations.

Using the standard configuration (with or without the grenade launcher) the MB5B can accurately hit targets up to 600 meters of range. Using just a red dot 0x magnification scope the MB5B can accurately hit targets up to 300 meters. With the sniper configuration (high powered rounds and long range scope) the MB5B can hit targets beyond 1000 meters.

Now THAT is how the rifle should have been portrayed in the game.

That's a neat model. Where are the grenade rounds kept?

The grenade launcher is fed like a shotgun, though it fires semi automatic.

Given how much it looks like the Battle Rifle from Halo 2, I guess Bungie have realised their mistake now. :) Nice model, btw.

It is very good - almost photorealistic looking.

That is awesome, Alyeska!

You should post that on some of the Halo sites.

Doesn't resemble the Battle Rifle THAT much.

An update on the design somewhat. Thats what it looks like with the grenade launcher removed. Right now The Axeman is playing with possible ways to integrate the scope more ala XM8 and/or G36. So that hump right there is more of a place holder.

It should probably be the MA5C.

Nice model though.

Forward handgrip is too close to the trigger assembly.

Thats not really a handguard so much as a placeholder. The Rail is also a handguard type location.

Looks nice, shouldh've been the rifle in the game. My only gripe is that the 25mm grenade has the same kill power as a grenade that one can see in Halo atleast resembles a 40mm grenade, which in some scenes actually looks a bit larger, like a 50mm explosive.

Originaly I had it a 40mm type grenade. I am probably going to call it a directed blast grenade. Its not your standard grenade launcher, but more of a way for a soldier to put heavy firepower onto a powerful target. Like say to knock out an Elite or even a Brute.

The beveled crown(end) of the Grenade Launcher isn't such a great thing. It'll have the tendency to push grenade off of the bore axis, making irt more difficult to aim it properly.

Kenny 10 bellys. He modelled my O-wing fighter.

It's very reminiscent of the KPB4 range he designed in here. you can see the models here (halfway down the page).
And you can see the design thread here. He changed the Host site for his pictures so i don't think all has pictures can come together, but you can get an idea of what formed the design specifics of the weapon.

Kenny tends to go for aesthetics when designing his own stuff. If you have a design brief that you want done specifically he'll do it for you. Otherwise he lets the artist in him make things look good.

And you have to admit that Grenade launcher muzzle does look very good.
