SDN plastic modelling competition

Insipired by this thread.

Since the rules of that one prohibit physical models, I'm starting this seperate competition. As this is going to be the equivalent of that competition, the rules (see below) set out by Beowulf shall remain the same.
Beowulf wrote:1. Final images to be in by Sept 30, no exceptions. On October 1st, the poll(s) will go up.

2. Judging will be by the SD.net denizens.

3. Do anything you want for this first contest. No limit to what you can model.

4. All images must be done utilizing a rendering program. No drawn pictures accepted.

5. All candidates must have an untextured version available for proof of authenticity.

6. All candidate images must be new for this contest. No fair using prior images.

7. You must have fun

8. There are no more rules.
The only differences are that 4 is stricken, and instead of posting an untextured pic as proof, you will need to somehow show that the model is yours (perhaps a pic of you with the model?).

Get to work.

I'll just make this official... -Beowulf

Cool, something I posted has become an announcement. :)

And if anyone doesn't want to post a pic of themselves with their model, they can take a few pictures of the model at various stages of completedness, with a card in the background that says _______'s model. This should provide sufficient authenticity.

A technical question:

Do we post the WIP's here, or in our own threads?
Umm... Own threads. When the deadline nears, I'll post a new thread to put the final pictures in.
For this competition, just dump the pics in this thread. Two such competitions will generate a lot of "look at this model I made for that competition" threads, that will clog up the forum, so this should cut into them a bit. Besides, there aren't as many physical modellers here as computer ones.

Any model type? Like Gundams or military tanks or whatnot?

Rule 3

Anything you want. It could be a 1/8 scale flying B-52.

EDIT: Oh, and I should probably mention that although I've made this official, I am not going to be running it. Any problems, take it up with someone else.

Hmm...

I'd like to enter, but there might be problems: the models I'd like to submit were very recently finished or are still being worked on.

For example, I just finished tweaking this 3.25" long KBoP:

Image

...but I still have lots to do on this 1/1400th scale Vor'cha model:

Image

So, the BoP would be inadmissible, but the Vor'cha is a go?

Or, should I just start on somethin' completely new instead? I think I'd be cool with that, though I might have to crunch to get it finished by Sept. 30th ;)

Sure, it can count. What scale is it?

Cool!

Technically, she's 1/1308 (109m/3.25"), but I usually say 1/1400th to keep things simple :)

Well, I just put the finishing touches on a 1:35 scale M1A2 Abrams: I'll take some pics of it tomorrow (I'll have to take the model outdoors to photograph it, because my POS digital camera sucks at indoors shots)

Crap. Half my models are pewter or pewter/plastic, and I have no camera, scanner, or digital camera. So many models... :(

If i weren't so ... below average at painting i'd be tempted to enter this.

And now, here is one shot snapped today:

Image

Please note that the colour of the model appears a little brighter in the pic than it should, due to the bright sunlight and the crappiness of my digital camera.

I'll edit a few more photos into this post later...

EDIT: And here are the new pics: as before, the model's colour may appear a bit washed-out due to the glare...

These shots are from the same batch as the one above...

Another side shot...

Now from the front...

The following shots were taken today. This time, I decided to use the back patio instead of the driveway, due to the time of day I took the photos (morning vs. afternoon in the above photos)

Posing next to another of my 1:35 scale tanks, a T-34/85. The T-34 looks puny, doesn't it? Kinda like comparing a compact car to a full-sized SUV (the weight ratio for the real tanks is about the same)...

Rear turret again, but from above...

Why are there kill rings on the fume extractor?

Because this is a model of an M1A2 that was deployed in OIF (this one was part of the 3rd ACR). Also note the CIPs, as well as the various supplies on the rear of the turret (ammo boxes, ALICE packs, duffel bags etc).

Well, I was originally going to enter my HAS-3 into this competition, but when I pulled out the window pieces, I was shocked. They were all really badly scratched and smudged. And one was missing. Realizing that it would make the model look ugly (and it did), I decided to start working on a MiG-27 instead. Unfortunately, its at a smaller scale, and has less detail, but it still works. I just finished it. Pics will be in tommorow. Hopefully.

*pulls at collar*

Well, getting a digital camera before the 30th is looking less and less likely...

Have such a great Ork Warboss I converted, too. :(

Ah, for fuck's sake. I hadn't anticipated this much homework. I just got back to SDN after half a week absense. I'll probably have them in tommorrow. Really this time.

Anyway, second last call for submitting stuff. This closes on the 30th.

I have a lot of models I would like to enter, but it will take me a while to borrow someone's digital camera, get the pics, and then upload them. Also, is there a site that will host these pics and allow them to be linked to/inlined?
And how big should these pics be? How much memory?

Email me them @ orihara at gmail dot com in a Zip file. I'll get them posted.

It's really, really busting my balls that I don't have access to a camera to enter this, you realise. :(
