Dragon Mothership v2.0

I've come the the conclusion that I hate the mesh I made for the Dragon's mothership. I've started from scratch, and it should be noted that this is a very early WIP, the ship doesn't even have a main 'body' yet, but I wanted impressions on what I have so far, and ideas about layout and placment of the existing parts as well as what you think the main body should look like.

Thanks.

It's... spikey. I'm afraid I don't know what else to say. Certainly the technique is above par, but I don't know one way or the other on the design.

It looks very spider-ish. I'd recommend making the body-to-spike ratio a bit heftier in favor of the body, lest the thing start looking more insectoid than reptilian beast.

Any more thoughts on the updated link above?

as said, a wee bit insectoid

Yeah, the spines should be more chunky than spindly, i reckon, and the rear looks a bit bare.

It looks alien-like, with hints of organics, and I think it looks pretty cool and menacing. :)

However, when I look at dmomy2.jpg, I think "looks like a destroyer or a frigate by size". But dmomy2b.jpg gives off the impression of a larger, greater, bigger ship. I guess the thing that I'm getting at is that it's kind of hard to judge the scale, at least by my eyes, I guess. I'd venture a guess that the more surface details we see, the greater the overall ship must seem, I guess. Your black-hole "world-ship" thing (for lack of a better description ) that you posted a looong time ago gives off an impression that that thing is absolutely *humongous*.

I think what it really needs to offset the organicality is a few spots where a more industrial-looking structure pokes through, like a small sensor tower here and there. It wouldn't be much, just a few objects scattered over the surface, but I think that would help give the thing a sense of scale.

And I still think the "spines" or "claws" or whatever should be shorter, stumpier, a significantly lesser amount of the overall ship.

Well the Dragon vessels are actually grown, infact all of their technology is, so bits of traditional tech wont really work. I do plan on adding ALOT more detail to the mesh in the next week, so hopefully that will establish a sense of scale.

More work. Trying to make it look bigger.

Stunning work as always, Fuzzy. I'm looking forward to seeing this movie of yours when it's finished.

Agreed. Extend that big bulge in the back into something like a tail.

It is a good design. Looks somewhat like an organic bioship.

Ya know, I was kinda expecting a more tail like tail. It looks kinda chopped off right now to me.

I think it's brilliant work, and I'm amazed by your skill.

That said, I don't like organic designs for ships. But if I did, this would be at the top of my list.

Now THAT is a ship worthy of utmost fear and cowering from it's enemies. I really like the close-up shots showing the textures on the thing. It looks awesome! :)

Hey, did you ever play around with sub-surface scattering, (Splutterfish's Brazil renderer add-on has this function and many more for 3dsmax) ? I think it would look cool and give an awesome organic effect to the ships.

*cowers for a second* Holy shit it's gonna eat me!

Damn, if you can make that thing fly as well as you can make that thing look nice. I myself will write letters to every single CGI company ORDERING them to hire you.
