An observation regarding fan art

I have noted that fan art of female characters often tend to portray said characters with very different... dimensions than the source materials do.

An example - Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil computer games: (is it just me, or does Jill Valentine sound like the name of a porn star?)

Some fan art for comparison:

it depends on the fanart. i've seen some fanart i've liked far better than the originals, while in other cases i've seen fanart that i found absolutely hideous. the pic you posted above is one of the worse (imo) examples of fanart out there. you also have to keep in mind a good number of the artists are. . . well, teens with raging hormones, so naturally certain aspects are going to be out of proportion.

here's a few examples of well proportioned fanart.

There's also well-proportioned fanart which is still... "altered" for increased hormonal satisfaction:

Caption: Who loves Resident Evil? ME! Who bought a GameCube so she could play the new Resident Evil games? ME! Who thinks Jill Valentine could kick anybodys ass? ME! Who thinks she wanders around Raccoon City in panties and a tube top? Not me, but that's not the point.

Zod, as far as I can tell that last example of yours isn't fan art. At the most it's an exact copy/tracing of Jill's art used in Marvel vs Capcom 2.

And the simple answer is of course once again: horny teens.

it is? meh. i just nabbed it off of a fanart site, so i didn't have a clue if it was original fanart or not. oh well. *shrug*

That's a broad generalization, it really depends on the artist. Some people just draw breasts big. Really, really big, and it carries over to their fanart. Others, a bit more classy, will not. I almost take it as an insult since i do fanart sometimes >_<
