Quite honestly Im glad they put Hayden in. That old fart Shaw from the originals looked like crap IMO and was only decent when he played the part with the mask taken off. As a kid whenever that ghost scene came up I always remember thinking: "THATS what Anakin looked like? "

It doesn't really make any sense, though. Why does Anakin appear as he was when he was younger, even though Obi-Wan and Yoda appear as they are when they die? Is it trying to assert that Skywalker actually died earlier, and was later reborn when Luke saved him? That makes sense with the obvious Christ parallels in the PT, but doesn't make much sense with regard to the OT.

That's when "Anakin" died, not Darth Vader. He appears as he did when he became Vader.Master of Ossus wrote:It doesn't really make any sense, though. Sorry, but the worst scene in the DVDs is still the Greedo scene, and I think the DigitalBits guys were smoking crack when they said it looked a lot better this time around. It still looks horribly disjointed and shitty, even if you leave aside its thematic implications. This ROTJ end-scene change doesn't bother me at all, to be honest. Besides, Anakin Bon Jovi looks kind of cool; Rebecca says she really likes the way he looks now.

Oh, I completely agree. There's simply no excuse for that monstrosity, though it has been improved over the Special Edition version.Darth Wong wrote:Sorry, but the worst scene in the DVDs is still the Greedo scene, and I think the DigitalBits guys were smoking crack when they said it looked a lot better this time around. I agree, although I think it makes more sense this way.
Besides, they should have found a way for David Prowse to be the unmasked Vader back when they were originally filming RotJ. It seems only fair since the character wasn't originally going to be masked all the time.

Heh, I love the footage of Prowse as Vader, shouting Vader's line. SO horribly acted, but SO eager and energetic. The mark of a newbie actor that's full of energy, but not talent...Besides, they should have found a way for David Prowse to be the unmasked Vader back when they were originally filming RotJ.

YEah, he is in the new SE. Mods, think a spoiler warning should be put in the title? I only ask because when I sat down to my all day SW marathon, seeing Christensen replacing the other guy in ROtJ was one big, nice and supercool surprise.2000AD wrote:SO the Hayden Anakin is actually in the movies now?
Yeah, but it is less shitty than before, isn't it? For one, they didn't cut Han's full line of *YES* I bet you have, they showed the huge explosion as Greedo gets fried by Han's blaster, etc. And the head dodge doesn't look nearly as bad as before. I suppose if we have to settle for the whole accursed revision, it is better than the SE.Sorry, but the worst scene in the DVDs is still the Greedo scene, and I think the DigitalBits guys were smoking crack when they said it looked a lot better this time around. I don't get it though. That's Anakin when he was twenty or so. That's not when he died, like the shots of Yoda and Obi-Wan. Shouldn't he look like he did when he actually died like Yoda and Obi-Wan?
I mean, I know about Obi-Wan bullshitting Luke about his father's death, about how Vader "killed" the good part that was Anakin, but that's not really true is it? Vader wasn't some seperate entity that possessed Anakin and over-wrote his personality, he is Vader. Nothing about him died, he just became an evil shit with power. It happens in history. It's like saying that Iosef Dzhugashvili was killed when the Stalin side of him took over.
Hell, he probably should not only looked old and beat up when he visited Luke, he still probably should have had his Vader get up still on him. After all, that is what he truly was, because that was what he chose to become.

According to Lucas, ROTS will explain this as well as the whole Force Ghost theory.Master of Ossus wrote:It doesn't really make any sense, though. Even if Vader was a "separate entity," Anakin returned when Palpatine was crispy frying Luke and by that point Anakin was an old, scarred man.Gil Hamilton wrote:I mean, I know about Obi-Wan bullshitting Luke about his father's death, about how Vader "killed" the good part that was Anakin, but that's not really true is it? This is true. Even if we assume that the "dark side" of Anakin was banished and his good side returned, you're quite right that he died as Anakin as an old man. I can't see any reason why he'd be his twenty year old self except to satisfy George Lucas' chubby for computer editting his movies with new footage.phongn wrote:Even if Vader was a "separate entity," Anakin returned when Palpatine was crispy frying Luke and by that point Anakin was an old, scarred man.

It damn well better explain it. That's what he said about TPM and AotC. I'm getting fed up with it now.JME2 wrote:According to Lucas, ROTS will explain this as well as the whole Force Ghost theory.

Agreed. I saw the new ending and didn't like it at all. The original ending was alot better.Seggybop wrote:This whole thing seems rather disgraceful to the old guy. There was no need to replace him with young Anakin, and it actually makes more sense to use the old version. I have to echo the sentiment that Lucas is way to eager to screw around with his CG.
