:wtf:

*sigh*

It appears none of you get the reference.

The John W. Brown is one of the few Operational Liberty ships
in existence. I caught her today being nudged into her berth in Baltimore;
from what was probably one of her runs up and down the Chesapeake to
raise funds.

BTW, She's a movie star. Her Engine Room was used as a stand in for
the Titanic's in the James Cameron movie. :P

Liberty Ships were mass-produced freighters from WW2.

The only other is SS Jeremiah O'Brien

Your ignorance of history is disturbing comrade.

The Liberty ships where mass-produced merchant ships churned out to the tune of nearly 3,000 vessels by US shipyards during WW2. They where absolutely vital to replacing the massive tonnage losses inflicted by U-boats in the battle of the Atlantic. Later in the war, the Victory ship was also mass produced alongside the Liberty ship, which where larger and faster vessels powered by steam turbines rather then triple expansion engine. But its greater complexity and cost meant it never could replace the Liberty ship.

Historical note: The manufacturer of Liberty ships went into business mass-producing suburban homes in California after Levitt found so much success on Long Island.

Someone remind shep that because not everyone is a military fanboi they won't have extensive and exhaustive knowledge of the various ships, planes, guns, etc. I'm not properly armed at the moment.

Sorry, but you need to appalingly ignorant of history to not know what a Liberty Ship is. Its akin to saying "what happened at Gettysburg?"

What if you're not American? Why are you supposed to know about US ships then?

You're excused, so long as your country wasn't involved in the fighting in Europe in WWII or a member of the Commonwealth.

No, no deathsquad. Its not equivalent to asking "What happened at Gettysburg?" as it is "What was the Hunley?"
