Here are the ones I have listened to in depth

Metallica- I know its really fashinobale to hate this band, and mostly thats lars ulrich's own fault, but their early albums up to black album really did kick a lot of ass.

Megadeth- I'm listening to Rust in peace, and Countdown to Extinction right now, they are really excellent thrash metal. They have also consistently released good albums unlike metallica

I have also heard a couple songs from Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath but I don't know enough about these bands to comment. I was wondering what you guys thought were some other good metal bands.

In Flames - Good Swedish Death Metal

Annihilator - some of the best metal I've heard.

Exodus and Testament are pretty good thrash, and Therion used to be good before they became symphonic.

Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath are just classics, like Judas Priest.

You must listen to Slayer. I recommend the albums "Reign in Blood" and "South of Heaven". Fast, heavy, and evil.

Blind Guardian. They pwn all.

Uriah Heep.

Rob Zombie. And I second Rammstein.

I always thought Slayer sounded kinda cheesy. *shrugs*

Those are the ones I like. Also used to listen to Testament.

Aw, fuck you. You take the 5 most badass RZ songs against the 5 best Metallica songs, and Zombie will come up short. Not that I don't like RZ, but he's no old-skool Metallica.

Old school Metallica is fucking overrated. I'm sick of everyone thinking that 80's speed metal is somehow the holy cow of fucking metal. It sucked, Metallica sucked and they still suck.

Dream Theatre-five guys+Berkeley School of Musci= Insane metal band. 7 songs on a 69 minute CD.
Otep- Pretty much what you'd expect hell to sound like.
Second InFlames
Fear Factory-Nasty Doublebass, and oh so industrial.

Judas Priest
Hellhammer (as in the prototype of Celtic Frost, not the drummer of Mayhem)
Bal-Sagoth

BTW - In Flames isn't Death Metal, it's a genre called "Gothenburg Metal" which consists of speed metal with growly vocals which went mallcore on recent albums. Actual Swedish Death Metal is bands such as Dismember, early Entombed, Necrophobic, Sacramentum and their ilk.

If you want actual really good Death Metal, try Demilich.

Almost all of the above mentioned are good or very good, but The Best? Manowar easily imho. They just got the attitude to be Number one

Best metal concert I ever went to.

I never could get into the pure thrash thing. I think even the heaviest most pissed off music needs to have some kind of melody to it. Although anything, absolutely anything was better than the crime against music known as glam rock. Hair spray, spandex, lipstick...*shivers* *pukes*

I have to give an honorable mention to one of the new bands: Disturbed. Flat out kick ass shit!

i don't know about their music, but any stright men who pose for an album cover like this deserve some..uh.. recognition.
