Looking for help making an avatar.

Post by Sea Skimmer »

Basically I have a pic that's almost usable in BMP form thats 9 KB. However thanks to the all mighty power of paint when I save it after removing the edges I don't want, and resize it gets bumped up to hundred of kilobytes or more. My shitty BMP to JPEG converted doesn't help.

So If someone would be willing to take my pic and make it unto a useable avatar I'd be happy and less likely to press the big red launch button.

Cool new AVs, both y'all

A few tips for those without Photoshop:

- check the properties of the image for the actual byte count. My av is 1,794 bytes but shows as 26K in the folder. Your pic may not be as big as it seems.

- I'm on a Mac, and haven't used MSPaint in quite awhile, but IIRC there are some options you have when saving a GIF or JPEG. To get a smaller GIF, try reducing the palette to 16 or 32 colors. An 80x80 pic doesn't really need a big palette to look good. Sometimes you can even get away with 8 colors. For jpegs, just reduce the image quality to medium or less. Try a few different resolutions, see what looks best.
For stuff like this, I usually lower the palette/resolution until the pic looks crappy, and then step it back up a notch.

- try a few different cropping options. A fex pixels can make the difference between 7K and 6K.

Yes, more specifically It's the Dark Templar Corsair pilot.

All the Protoss pictures are pretty cool, though I'd place this one in the top three. The ones I'd place above it didn't suit what I wanted. What best of all is that b.net's online strategy guide has all of them at dimensions that are already very close to what's needed for an avatar.

Arguably. They were fucked over by the Swarm, but you could blame that on the incompetence and arrogance of the Judicators.

Their units are individually the most powerful, thats no in doubt. Its balanced out by cost for the most part.

As for why the Swarm almost beat them, arrogance and shear numbers. The Zerg sent billions of warriors against Tarsonis alone. Tassadar's failure to burn more worlds didn't help either.

They did? I thought there were just a couple billion in the Swarm altogether...

And, Tassadar's failure to burn the words might have led to their defeat anyway, because if he had incinerated Mar Sara, Raynor would have been killed, the Confederacy might not have been overthrown and Raynor would never have thrown his lot in with the Empire.

The Swarms total strength is unknown. All we know is that they can send billions against one planet and a single Brood can have millions.

The Terran Dominion wasn't exactly friendly to the Protoss either and there total forces where limited. Ranyors contribution is a bit skewed by game play; I don’t think it was decisive in any way. Look at the return to Aiur, one battle cruiser alongside a dozen carriers or more. That’s not much.

But he did contribute a small army of ground units that were used on the final assault on the Overmind.

Although, one wonders what would have happened to Kerrigan had not Arcturas ordered the destruction of those two Protoss bases...

She'd probably have escaped. And there'd be no sequel.

BTW, what is the Diablo III storyline going to be about? If there even IS a Diablo III. They seem to have mine dout every single plausible avenue for an enemy. What's next, fighting Diablo's mom? Sargeras?

With Blizzards current record, Diablo III will be a 2D RTS game with no plot at all.

Did you try to lower the color depth from 24 or 16 down to 8, then JPEG it?
