This was sent to me via email.

This picture was taken by a KTBS helicopter flying over Lake Conroe. (For those of you who are not local, Lake Conroe is located northwest of Conroe, Texas, which is about 30 miles north of Houston.)

A only somewhat related article about Lake Conroe and alligators.

Game officials investigate shooting of alligator at Lake Conroe

Interesting, most of the people posting on the boards for that site seem to think the shooter (from the article) shouldn't be harshly reprimanded.

I figured you'd like the pictures but I found the article when I was looking up the lake on the internet.

It seems that people around that lake don't like alligators much. Probably too much of an inconveinence for them. :?

they can all go fuck themselves as far as I am concerned. That gator is probably was probably older than the oldest human resident...

Hrm......

Brief flash of tail in the top photo makes me think whitetail deer. I could be wrong, of course, but going by the average size of a whitetail deer we can guesstimate the size of the gator.

Average whitetail doe in WV is 3.5ft tall (approx. 1m) at the shoulder. Average weight is 200lb (roughly 95kilo). Total body length from nose to tail is approx 4ft (1.3m).

Thus, going by the second picture, which has a better look at how the gator is holding the deer, we should be able to measure the gator's size using the length of the deer's front leg from shoulder down. By that picture, the gator should be between 3 and 4 feet long from nose tip to just behind his front legs, where the hooves of the deer seem to be resting.

Extrapolating from that measurement, once again using the deer's shoulder as a guide, I would say this gator is no more than 7ft (2.1m) long.

DISCLAIMER: I am basing this off the size of an Appalachian WhiteTail Doe. However, whitetail deer can grow bigger -- up to 5ft (1.6m) at the shoulder-- and this is a Texas deer.
If it was not a whitetail deer as I believe, but a Mule Deer, the size I list above is the average for that species male or female.
