If your exposure to anime is limited to what 4Kids publishes (as is entirely possible), your hatered of anime may well be due to 4kids. The anime the west sees is more often than not hardly the cream of the crop, greatly diminished in quality due to bad voice acting and shoddy translation and editing. As the VGCats cartoon suggests.

4Kids Entertainment is notorious for butchering their anime properties prior to release in the US, Rouge. They're more or less completely despised by anime fans.

Plus that have simply the most bizarre stance on licensing anime that I've ever heard. I'd summerise it as that they seem to view the fact that anime comes from Japan a bad thing, but it just goes so far beyond that. It's like reading something written by aliens.
