It's pretty cool. These are old images though, from last fall. I just now finished off the roll of film and got them developed. He's since moved on to other projects, and the device itself never got used again after that, since it broke.

I'll help. I live right by the Kennedy Space Center, we launch giant phallic objects into space all the time. That should count for something. :P

EDIT: On topic, that's very cool. It's always great when you can pull off something like that without serious injury.

Wow, gasoline from a supersoaker. Ingenious.

Been done. There's a few videos of people doing the same thing around the place.

Doesnt that melt the supersoaker?

Not if you make sure the igniting element is far enough from the nozzle; then it's basically just a spray of gasoline going through a spark/wick and igniting. Given a long enough spray with a too-close wick, sure, but you'd have to have the Super-Soaker pumped up to insane levels of pressure to maintain spray that long. Of course, if the wick is that close, there's also a pretty good likelihood that an explosion could occur, considering the fumes...

If his other projects are on the same level, I woun't be surprised if your friend will get a Darwin award for his entire career.

That looks decent, but it also looks like a Darwin award waiting to happen.

hmmmm a rigid pvc plastic tank with a melt temperature around 300 F, pressurised and filled with flamable liquid and shooting fire.

*prepares darwin award paperwork.

Nice flamethrower. Your friend is as cute as he is dumb. <HIJACK>He qualifies for LHBC membership tho  </HIJACK>

Tell him to find or make one from materials that aren't glorified hydrocarbons next time. It's bad form to make a weapon meant for multiple uses out of the same general material category as the fuel used in the weapon...
