Is it just me or does it look slightly wonky?

Pretty nice. I'm assuming this is only a basic repreentation and a final version would be a lot mre refined?

well I'm not sure if I'm gonna refine it anymore (and BTW it didn't cost a thing)

That's pretty good! Looks a little like the prop a friend of mine did. Has about the same amount of tape too :P Of course, we put a fricking electrical switch for cars on it. That looked... interesting...

May I recommend glue, instead of tape? It looks better, and if you use a good two-component epoxy glue it should even hold together better. Or better yet, try to find some of that cement-like stuff they sometimes use for repairing details on cars. I managed to put a 12V recharge port on one of my lightsabres with that shit once. Not that it's connected to anything, but at least it looks cool...

Problem with glue is that I'm not sure it will stick to Aluminium.
