It looks like something straight out of a movie, but supposedly it's a real animal. What is it exactly?

Compared to the pics in the Wikipedia article, the Aye-Aye in the OP looks like it is either suffering from some sort of hair loss or a young one which has not yet grown a full coat of hair.

Mind you, when I first saw the OP I though it was some strange Chinese breed of dog.

That's just about the fugliest baby mammal I've ever seen. Aren't Aye-Ayes believed to be some sort of bad omen or evil spirit in Madagascar?
