It's spelled with a C-- Walter Cronkite.

Other than that, looks nice. A little elaboration upon the ship's function, where it comes from, and what you'll put it to? I'm guessing this comes from a sci-fi verse of your own or what?

The ship is basically a mobile planetary news headquarters.

It was built by the Galactic News Network. The first ship was named after the news anchor Walter Cronkite. Other ships were named Mike Wallice, Tom Leher, Tom Brokov, Ect.

The ship contain specially build shuttle craft, seen in top view, with transmission equiptment and other equipment for a reporter and camera crew. In the center of the ship is a detachable section which can serve as a local broacast headquarters and is outfitted with some modified hovervans with similaer equiptment as the shuttles but less of it and less capable.

Thanks for the heads up!

Yes its from my own Sci-Fi universe. The drawing was not finished yet so fixing the spelling should be easy enough

Does anyone have any suggestions about the ship and its design?

Any feedback will be welcome

The design is nice and solid looking although it doesn't appeal to me personally. No sticky out widgets or stupid gimmicks.

Is it shielded? Because the windows might be a lliability in the event of running across a piece of space shrapnel or whatever.

Its shielded but not with anything intended to be battle worthy. I have not added all the details onto the ship yet I plan on adding more windows, office windows ect. The Bridge on top is also the main newsroom of the ship. the Desk face aft with the window behind the anchors. The desk is on the lower level of the bridge wiuth the flight command deck one level up and more to the rear of the bridge.

Sort of like the above.

It's nice though I'd keep parts that are reponsible of the operations of the ship more clearly seperate from the News studio/office space.

Other than the bridge area I plan on that. Its just the best place for me to put both. They are seperated with them being on different levels.

The back near the enginds is the engineering spaces the rest of the ship is the Offices, residences, ect. The engennering sections are aft of the bridge windows.

The two side pods contain the Stuttle hangers and the equiptment and maintainence facilities for them and the front containing the to ground Comunications gear and equiptment. The doors on top the side pods are for shuttles to exit the hanger.

a news vessel should have some insane speed, sensors, and transmission capability. Add top-notch shields to that and you've got yourself a tight little ship that can get to the scene fast, survive pirate attacks or natural phenomena, figure out what's going on, and send a broadcast back.

Indeed. That in the general idea. There are a few high speed transports that are faster than this ship but they are not used by the general public so this is faster than most other civilian vessels. Most ships get around using the Terran Stargate network so getting to a heavily developed place is not usually a problem. It place not well developed where speed would give a ship an advantage. The sensor are mounted internally. The communication gear is the most visible part of the ship seen in the cluster of Comm dishes on the rear of the ship.

It's pretty cool, but most civilian ships would likely want to use only a single kind of engine so as to simplify maintenance (though redundant ones would be a good thing).

Yes the large main engine is all the ship would require if it was a mere freighter. Since they were after the faster speeds and responce times the other engines are present. Only part sizes are different in the engines as they have the same opperating internal structure.

Ach! I've also had the same idea of a broadcast ship for a short story I am trying to write. But the ship is different and somewhat well armed. :)

Well this ship is based off of one of my freighter designs hence its general look.

Ahh. For my "broadcast" ship, it is a customized oversized yacht converted as a boradcast ship with some weaponry and shielding since the areas they report from isn't always safe. :)

Well your sounds more like a warfare information Dispatching vessel

That and the reporter has a habit of gaining enemies while in a pursuit of "the story". Hence he needs to protect himself, that and he somtimes reports from a war zone. :):)

But wouldn't making the ship armed actually invite trouble? Reporters in a warzone are civilians, they don't typically go around with guns as they don't want to be mistaken for a combatant and/or shot. Shields I can see, but arming it would make it more likely to get blown up, not less, even if both sides of the battle respect the rules of lawful warfare and don't just blow up clearly marked journalists.

This was the reason I have this ship as completely unarmed. It leaves nothing to question it is a civilian vessel. Some of my frieghters are armed but mainly only with weapons really good for stopping pirates
