And my arsenal grows.

Previously, my arsenal consisted entirely of long, sharp metal bits, and a 40 year old shotgun. Now, at long last, I am finally a handgun owner:

This is my first handgun, a .40 caliber GLOCK (Yeah, yeah, some of you don't like that double-action only trigger, or the lack of an external safety lever. Bite me, I happen to like the weapon. It's bloody simple to operate and maintain.) And after having fired a handgun before (my firearms experience is long-guns,) I find that my research was right on the dot. The .40 S&W is a very well-mannered cartridge, and the weapon firing it handles very well (in spite of my limited handgun experience, consisting of a weekend on the range and 175 rounds expended, plus unloaded dry-fire time to familiarize myself with basic handgun stances.)

My best effort so far (much room for improvement, I think.):

Nice Glock! .40 S&W is a nice caliber for a handgun too. Anyone screaming 'OMG NO SAFETY' at you will be slapped with a Cominolli safety.

I believe (as I was told) you can send the frame back to Glock to get the updated version that dispenses with the need of that Pachmayer sleeve. Of course that old guy could have been blowing smoke up my ass because I sure as hell wasn't going to give up my gun for a few months for something that trivial.

I used to have a .40 Glock, it was very sweet and I really regret letting it go.

Were you able to get your hands on the high-capacity mags?

Gold? Nope. That's the new olive-drab frame they came out with. Just wonky lighting in the photo makes it look different.

I love my Glock 23, I think in the long run you'll be very satisfied with it. I've put over 3000 rounds through mine without a single problem. (Though I do keep it clean)

I like black better though.

It's a 3rd generation frame, which means it already has the textured grip and accessory rails. I, however, happen to like the feel of that sleeve (and I've fired the weapon with and without the sleeve. Really, it's good either way . . . I just like the feeling of the sleeve a bit more.)

And no, I've got two 10 round magazines, but the local firing range/gun shop sells the high capacity magazines, so I'm thinking of picking up a couple for carrying purposes, and keep the ten round magazines for range time.

Ugh, if only it didnt cost so much for the permit in NY, I'd join the ranks of the armed and proud.

If you dislike the standard SA and DA, go to a range and try out a Walther P-99. I myself don't the Glock trigger, but the P-99 shot like a dream, so maybe you'll like it even more too.

As for accuracy, you're not doing bad for a start. At 20 metres that 6 (looks like it) round group in the 10-ring is pretty impressive with a Glock (they take some serious practice to get as good with as, say a Browning Hi-Power).

I myself have a Glock-22 and love it. The .40S&W is a wonderful round. Not that much more kick then a 9mm, but nearly the same stopping power of a .45ACP, and yet the Glock-22 can hold as much ammo as most other 9mm handguns. The Glock-22 is a wonderful pistol to shoot. Very smooth, nice aim. Bloody reliable. I've never had a single problem with my Glock and I've put more then a thousand rounds through it. Recently I stopped by a gunshow and I bought two more hi-cap magazines. I first bought my 22 back in the AWB days and had 3 ten-round mags. I currently have 6 fifteen-found mags for it.

The .40S&W round is wonderful. Its the best compromise between the .45ACP and the 9mm. You get better stopping power then a 9mm, but higher magazine capacity and less recoil then the .45ACP. I can see why its real popular with the police and became an instant success in the civilian market.
