For the anime otaku around SDnet, what's your favorite vocal/nonvocal track in any anime series? Can be an OP, ED, or a random song that's included in the episode.

For me:
Vocal track: "Link" by L'arc~en~Ciel from FMA: Conqueror of Shambala.
Nonvocal track: "Ensei" (instrumental version) by Yuki Kajiura from My HiME.

Vocal: The acoustic version of "Voices" from Macross Plus, which is also my favourite song period. Simply one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

Instrumental: The final song played in The End of Evangelion, "Opening of Dream." It's a short, slow piano piece that has such a sad tone of finality.

Eh, who wants to label themselves otaku? That's rather dumb.

Vocal: Last Exile - Cloud Age Symphony
Non-vocal: I believe it's called "Prelude ot battle" out of the Macross: DYRL? soundtrack. It's the song they play when the inital intercept of the Zentradi is made off of Titan.

Ein, I'd actually consider "Tank!" as an instrumental, because the only real vocals in it are just two lines at the very beginning.

Evangelion: Opening song. (Cruel Angel's Thesis)
Soultaker (Don't know the source).
I also like some more of the songs from the evangelion song soundtracks, namely:
  • Harbinger Of Tragedy
    Zankoku na Tenshi no Teize
    Decisive Battle
    Don't make others suffer
    Cruel Angel's Thesis (Ambivalent
    Kokoro yo Genshi ni Modore
    Tanin no Kanshou
    Angel Attack
    The beast
    NERV
    The beast 2
And more that I can't be bothered to CP right now :P.
Also, some of the music from the Hellsing ST vol 1/2 ain't half bad if not spectacular, as is the msuic from Gundam seed (Never seen the movie though).
Going to A&M in 3.2.1...

The full title of that song is "Don't Make Others Suffer For Your Own Personal Hatred."

Erm yes, can't imagine how the tag got mixed up (BTW, am I the only one who depsised the RAP/VOX soundtrack album? The names were great [Thanatos], but the songs sucked hard)

I take it you're not familiar with the popular usage of the word back in Japan then? This little bit of history might change your mind regarding the word. As it typically has a major negative connotation in Japan.
The "otaku panic", as described by Sharon Kinsella, didn't really occur until after the infamous Tsutomu Miyazaki incident in 1989. Miyazaki (who was 26, and in no way to be confused with legendary anime director Hayao Miyazaki) kidnapped and murdered 4 little girls. When he was arrested, the police found a huge collection of various anime and manga, some of it pornographic, in his apartment.

The media picked up on this and repeatedly referred to Miyazaki as an otaku, thereby exposing the term to the public at large. As such, "otaku" became associated with sociopaths like Miyazaki, and in the panic, many in the media tried to blame Miyazaki's deviant behavior on anime and manga (which is not dissimilar to the American media blaming violent video games and movies for the tragedy at Columbine).
