Edit: Besides, the white mage looks like it would be easier to put together.

Go with White Mage. Two Black Mages, that won't get much attention. But a Black Mage and a White Mage? Pfft, people will watch out for a group that can not only destroy the world but then put it back together.
EDIT: And if you want any hints for making a Black Mage costume feel free to ask, I made one a few years ago.
