A Photographic Preview (Deer Skeleton)...

As mentioned in the current Vent Thread, yesterday while in the woods I came across a deer skeleton near our pond (judging from its size, I think it might be a fawn). I had long before run out of film, but decided to go back today with a fresh roll and get it on film, specifically, in colour.

I also took other pictures today, and plan on making them all a small series called "State of Decay." Right now here's a preview of the deer, which I took with our digital camera.

Enjoy! ;)

I think the problem is the lack of color contrast makes the picture appear bland, regardless of 'gooky' contents . They are nice pictures, but I actually think I might enjoy your normal fare more than these. You have an excellent eye for composition.

I agree, the foliage ruins it all. Should've cleaned up the area CSI style. The brown soil would do it better.

Hmm, I think you might be right. It's a pitty because when I found it the day before in the late afternoon the sunlight had more of a golden quality to it. Then again, these were also taken with a digital camera and I'm betting that the film pictures will be a little different.

Fortunately the little blighter isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so I'll have enough time to do more experimentation in the near future. I suppose I should also try less "clinical" angles.

I actually did clear off quite a few leaves that were covering it up, which was a bit difficult because I was also avoiding touching/disturbing the thing as much as possible.

In general though, for my pictures I prefer to avoid making as much interference with the subject as possible, and the aspect of the skeleton being among the foliage was part of what I wanted to capture.

Okay, I decided to mess around with "deer03" in Photoshop, specifically the contrast and curves. Do the following alterations make any improvements in terms of visual contrast?

Mind you, my monitor doesn't make this the best computer to do photomanipulation on... :|

Because I didn't want to spend more than ten minutes just to bug my brother.
I will, however, take the time to one-up you. :P

Ok, fine Freud. Have it your way; It's a goddamn penis. You win and you get all the fnuckin' points in the game. You don't have to spam about it now.

Cool, so it's like the stinky meat project but with a deer skeleton.

Well, "State of Decay" isn't going to focus entirely on the deer skeleton, although it might be a fairly strong subject matter. In general the overall subject matter will be stuff that's falling apart, broken, worn, or otherwise far from a state of pristine condition.

So, do the modifications made to that image above help it in terms of visual contrast compared to the original? Personally I think it gives it sort of a gloomy Silent Hill-esque quality...

Hooray, thank you!

I'm still debating whether I should put it on dA, considering how drastic it is from my usual work... :|
