My tiny terror

Remember this guy? This is David the year before this board was started.

Image

And this is David a couple of weeks ago:

Image
Doing the Mexican hat dance at the school end-of-year celebration with his classmates. He's paired up with Hannah, who's wearing orange.
Image
Still dancin' ...
Image
A different kind of dance. He had a game which started at exactly the same time that the end-of-year school party ended, so we bundled him in the car and drove straight from the school to the soccer pitch.
Image
Run!!!

Image
And this is him being ... well, himself. Can you tell that we forgot the camera for this birthday party and had to use one of those crappy disposable cameras? I did my best to compensate for the bad lighting with a GIMP backlight correction script, but it's still pretty ugly, and that's the best shot from the entire roll. Most of the shots had more grain than picture. Argh.

Mike, posting pictures of your son in a thread called "My tiny error" ... well, it might give the wrong impression. ;)

EDIT: Nevermind, I can't read.

Cute boy, actually I thought the thread might be about your dog. :-)
Kids really grow up fast dont they? My friends little girl turned 4 yesterday and she is so tall that she could pass for a 6 or 7 year old.

Do you are boys get along with each other?

I still remember the baby pics. Man, the more things change, the more they stay the same :D

Nice pictures of what must be a great kid...except for the last one. That indeed is pretty horrible. The depth and perspective from the lens is terrtible: the kid on the right looks like a cardboard cutout.

Oh yeah, I already get a bit wistful knowing that my baby is gone and there's a rambunctious boy in his place. And soon that rambunctious little boy will be gone too, replaced by a "pre-teen". Anyway, my boys still "sort of" get along. They're not bitter enemies, anyway. They play together, and fight together.

There really are some parts of a kid's personality that are there from birth. People who dismiss the effects of genetics on personality have obviously never had kids.

That's what I get for forgetting the camera at home and having to resort to one of those goddamned disposables. I'm just glad I had my good camera on the day of the school event and soccer game. All of those shots are high-motion shots, with kids dancing and jumping and running. Worse yet, the shots at the school were in the shade and the sky had clouded over by the time we got to the soccer pitch, so the lighting was poor. With the cheap disposable, I would have gotten nothing but blur and grain.

I'm guessing the other team prints their kids' names on the front of their jerseys, hence the blurring, yes?

Indeed. It looks like someone used the perspective tool in Photoshop on his head.

And that pre-teen will be replaced with a teen who thinks you're totally uncool and have no idea of the pain and suffering that is his life. Enjoy! :D

Did you pixelate the football jersies for a reason?

Also how did the game go? And what position does David play?

I was just looking at the combination of Asian and Western features in David's face, and it struck me: Damn, that's one handsome kid! The lucky bugger will have to beat the women off with a stick once he's older. (Or maybe he already has to.)

When racists go on about racial purity as a good thing, they're not only flying in the face of all we know about biology, but also aesthetics.

Crown wrote:Did you pixelate the football jersies for a reason?
Yes. There was a very specific local business name on the front which would make it really easy to figure out where I live. While I understand that a determined sleuth could eventually figure it out despite me not using my home address for my domain name registration, I don't see any reason to make it so damned easy that you can figure out where I live from the Yellow Pages.
Also how did the game go? And what position does David play?
We tied 3-3. And David is 8, so the only positions they recognize are "offense", "defense", and "goalkeeper". And the kids barely seem to recognize any distinction between offense and defense; every kid on the field except for the goalkeeper generally joins a rush. We're trying to explain positional play to them but only a handful of them do it. But this is the year when they typically learn how to play positions; Matthew's team was fairly consistent with it by the end of the season when he was 8, and they won the playoff tournament that year.

Indeed, same-race pairing is a low-level form of inbreeding when you think about it. That's why I sometimes refer to it as "racial inbreeding", especially when dealing with idiots who think that interracial matings are bad.

I'm more amazed he's 8...wow, time does fly. I really am dumbfounded by friends who have kids of 2-3, but to have someone within less then a decade of me to having two sons and the youngest being 8? Really congrats, your boy is growing :D .

And for the title, I believed honestly it was going to be more Fluffy pics.

Stupid off the Wall Question: I know you're in Toronto, so why does the other soccer team wear Red White and Blue uniforms with "U.S.A" stamped on the sleeve?

It appears they're dressing up as different national teams -- David's team is wearing Brazilian colors.

I'm guessing massive Ice-Cream pic out and celebratory cake fights, yes?

Hey, or Australian!

Mike, that really is one beautiful kid, and it's absolutely wonderful for us to see both of your boys grow over the years (where we can watch but be safely beyond babysitting distance :P). Has he mentioned any girls in particular yet, or is that still a bit into the future?

All I can say is I expect him to grow up to make his father proud, and I sure hope one day I can boast about my kid playing football, post pictures to show the naysayers, and make Durandal state he can't read while getting the adoration of Zaia-ai-ai.

He's not into girls quite yet, although one girl was basically following him around school for a while. He hasn't noticed girls yet, but some girls have noticed him.

Children born to a Chinese-White marriages often make out on the looks department. My friends little girl could pass for white but she is quite the cutey and while her brother is clearly half Chinese he too will attract many members of the opposite sex when he gets older.

I think Brazil and all the mixing that goes on there makes some pretty good folks too.

The Hispanic/Indian combination is also smoking hot. Also, the Middle Eastern races combine very well with just about anyone. And even simple black/white makes some great results.

Halle Berry FTW?

We're talking about aesthetics here, which are, of course, subjective. But is there any evidence of mixed-race children being objectively superior in any way? I'm thinking of the phenomenon of "hybrid vigor" in non-human species. Of course, I suspect that humans of all races, despite their superficial differences, are actually far too similar for such a result.

BTW, clearly David gets his good looks from his dad.

Rebecca still has hers!

Children with a mixed race heritage are more resistant to disease and parasites, so yes, their genetic makeup is objectively superior to less ethnically diverse humans.

I really liked messing with the rascists in my college from both sides. My Godmother is a black panther, due to my mom's ancestors having a little bit of Saracen in them I'm also a carrier of the beneficial form of the gene that leads to scicle cell animia (yes, I know I'm a blue eye'd caucasion)
