My first drawing in about 7 years

I used to draw a lot as a kid till my early teens. Even then it was mostly about dueling spaceships and their deck plans. I stopped doing it altogether when I went to senior high, until few weeks ago I decided I should try drawing again. Today I finally did what I promised to myself. This is the result of three hours of work:

It's pretty much based on the photo I took of a cute French tourist in London last December. The drawing isn't supposed to be finished yet, but I'm certainly not touching Paint Shop Pro anymore today. :) I did it by scanning a pencil sketch to the computer and colouring it with Paint Shop Pro's brush tool (first time ever when I coloured something with an image editor). I know it's nothing spectacular, but I'm proud I got at least something done!

That's great; good work! Always nice to see someone branching out :).

Thank you, Pick! :)

I know this is thread necromancy on a massive scale, but since I will probably try making more drawings, I might as well continue posting here?

This time my drawing was consciously inspired by the actress Sophie Marceau, who is a goddess on Earth in the movie "Braveheart" as far as I'm concerned. I'm really not satisfied with the eyes and the whole drawing process was trial and error from the beginning till the end, lasting several hours. It's my second drawing after the one in the first post.

Next time I will probably try to draw something that actually shows more body than these two. Compared to photography, this is way moredifficult. I don't even dare to count how many times I almost gave up, just trying to do a simple face.

that's actually really good for someone who's stopped and picking it up again. That's really damned good. Keep at it and you'll be amazing.

Thanks for the encouragement, though I was never on any kind of level that I could now say I'm picking it up again. :) I've been using GIMP, a freeware image editor, and mouse for everything except drawing the basic lines. Proper tools would be nice, though. I tried doing a full body drawing today, but measurements of the human anatomy elude my grasp. Therefore, here's a quick sketch of a Roman legionary without his helmet (hence the crooked nose):

I realized for the first time how you can use combination of brush/pencil and smudge tools to make shadows.

Pretty good. I'd work on the Pupil/irises. They strike me as being too big. Still pretty good though.
