Seeing as how I'll be bringing my upod and a pair of speakers here next week and to maintain my wake-up time of 0630 or 0730 [depends if I'm running or not] in style, Post your suggested best music for waking up in the morning (I ama light sleeper so no Death metal ).

Beethovens "Pastoral" is the most obvious example of course.
Pier Ghynt [Classical] has some excellent suitable stuff.
"Eye of the tiger" or "Rocky theme-song" might be good for waking up with energy especially before a long hard early morning run.

My morning playlist is the soviet anthem, Kaiser Chiefs mix, Another one Bites the dust, some Firewater songs(another perfect catastrophey, Refinery), the Force commander Imperial March mix and some The Darkness.

It's a mix so the mind dosn't get used to it.

For me it's whatevers on the local radio station, and that also helps with finding out what the local traffic is like as well.

(Admittedly that means bugger all in the middle of the desert)

I have my radio tuned to one of the local rap stations. Why? Because I hate rap so much it creates a pathological need to get out of bed and shut the damn thing off.

Grindcore was coined by the guitarist from Napalm Death, I believe, like what, 18 years ago almost? It's an extension of harcore punk, where they take things to the nth degree, more speed, more ferocity, more veganism, much weirder song structure, and generally more noisy, hence "grind".

Early carcass founded the genre "goregrind" which mixed grindcore with gory imagery, lower notes and pitch shifted vocals, having inherited musically from early Napalm Death. Carcass were also vegans, whether they were trying to advance anti-meat eating habits with gross (but highly medical) descriptions of anatomy and mutilation still remains to be seen.

PS, modern genre names are shit. When you've got a genre named by Anal Cunt, it's time to stop dividing music into ever more niche genres.

Back when I was in a Navy school my roomates and I used to wake up to Anvil of Crom from the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack.

I recommend The Road Goes Ever On Pt. 1. This is perhaps one of the best tracks from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings - The Complete Recordings. The music is so beautiul. And perhaps play the track after, May It Be by Enya. Both songs make a great combination.

I second May It Be, that song is wonderful in the morning. I have an obnoxious alarm clock that wakes me up in the mornings, but I also leave the radio on at a low volume during the night on classical music, and once I somewhat awaken I turn it up a little bit so I get on my feet soon.

I always have the tradition of playing "Good Morning" by the Beatles when I embark on early morning fishing trips.

The song itself is pretty upbeat, and the random animal noises (especially towards the end) will definitely get ya up.

Do you mean the discordant spanish music with the horns, accordians and trumpets? Oh, hell yeah I second that. I have that on my clock radio and it never fails to get me up, no matter how late I stayed up the night before.

I like songs that gradually fade in or build up [but not as slow as Bolero obviously ] Any genre will do in this mold but my particular tastes have me using Mutant Message by Juno Reactor and On by Aphex Twin. [changed my mind mid-post, edited for contradictory crap, loud jolting songs bad; see below]

I rarely opt for the loud songs that blast to wake you up. I mean, the worst feeling in the world is when you wake up in a way where you're in a bastard half-conscious state right before being jolted awake -- that feeling you get when you literally feel the heartbeat ramp up from resting heartrate all the way to something much higher, it rather feels like a heart attack I imagine.

Anyway, yeah, I try to avoid that, and jolting songs are what do it to me.

I have an old Star Trek Alarm clock that screams "the Enterprise is under attack wake up and do something!" at me in Klingon. If that won't wake you up you're medically in a coma.
