Majel Barrett-Roddenberry has died

Post by Bounty »

TrekMovie wrote:Today is another sad day for Trek fans, TrekMovie was just informed by the Roddenberry family that Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away this morning at the age of 76. The first lady of Star Trek’ died of leukemia at her home in Bel Air. At her side were her son Eugene ‘Rod’ Roddenberry along with family and friends.
For the few that may not know, Majel Barrett provided the voice of the Enterprise's computer in every series post-TOS, as well as playing the recurring roles of Nurse Chapel in TOS and Lwaxana Troi in TNG and DS9. As she recorded the voice of the Enterprise computer in the upcoming Trek XI and various supporting roles in TAS, she is the only actor to have appeared in every single Star Trek spin-off, as well as appearing in both the very first (TOS "The Cage") and last (Trek XI) Star Trek story filmed as of 2008.

Given how awful this year has been for celebrity deaths I feel numbed, but still tough to hear this and the franchise has lost an important corner stone. Her distinctive computer voice had a cameo in Family Guy.

While I'm not too familiar with the Lwaxana Troi character, her impact on Star Trek is undeniable.

May she rest in peace, and my condollences to her family.

And I was so excited that her voice would be in the new movie...

Man, this totally bums me out. I used to have a huge crush on Nurse Chapel when I was a kid. Her role as Lwaxana was one of my favorite recurring roles in the new series. :(

Actually, she was the computer voice from TOS as well: starting with "Mudd's Women".

I also remembe her one-off appearance in B5 as Lady Morella where apparently she had been asked to do the part specifically by JMS.

Even if it is, if we kick and scream and fight like hell, we'll move forward, even just a little bit.

That's... nice, but could you really not find a better comment that a triple-post of smiley spam?

EDIT: not trying to be a moderator here, but since PST doesn't have one, I don't really know who would react to this.

The smiley limit was 10.

I wanted to do three rows in one post, but it wasn't allowed by the software.

And another of the original Trek cast is gone forever. We've still got most of them, but for how long? :?
