Would transphase torps be a vilolation of the treaty?

Post by Darth Garden Gnome »

In the other thread, it was agreed (save Adm. K, but he hardly counts) that phase cloaks would be illiegal under the Rom/Fed treaty. But what about transphasic torpedoes? They supposedly go "out of phase" to pass through Borg shields in "Endgame" (VOY), just like phase cloaks, just like phase cloaks go "out of phase."

Thsi may be the reason we didn't see them in Nemesis, although I'm sure there are other reasons for this.

*shrugs* The name mereley suggests it. In that is trans means to go across, on the other side of or beyond something and phase seems to mean to cross between something (as in dimesnsion).

Anyways, maybe just a hypothetical question then. WOULD transphasic torps be outlawed due to said treaty if they worked on the premise of crossing between dimensions.

I'd say it doesn't. The Torpedo is visible, thus it is also probably detectable by sensors.

The presence of the word "phase" doesn't mean anything. Phase and frequency are used for everything in TNG era Trek. Its their magic buzz word. You can do anything in TNG era Trek if you know the right phase and frequency.

If they were somehow undetectable, probably. We don't know the exact terms of the treaty. It may just outlaw cloaking a ship since its ships that can travel dozens of light years, cross the neutral zone and attack your planets and starbases.

If they crossed dimensions, they would flicker in and out of sight. They did not. They obviously just had some sneaky way of getting past Borg defenses.

For all we know of their workings, Janeway could have simply loaded the things with nude pictures of herself and fired them out the torpedo tube.

That would explain the destruction of the Borg unicomplex. As the picture moved through the Borg infrastructure, mass suicides and insanity caused a cascade failure.

Wouldn't transphasic torpedoes simply neutralize shield frequencies across a broad range or can operate on multiple shield frequencies simultaneously to insure penetration (however that weird ass frequency shit operates.)

Fuck that., What I mean is, wouldn't they simply be better able to find the "frequency" of the shield for purposes of penetration?

I brought this up in an earlier thread, if the torpedo had its own shield generator and tha shield was at the same frequency as the target's shield t could pass through unhindered.

Why ST ships can't simply can their enemy's shield frequency is beyond me.
