There's a sticky about just that kind of thing in the mod fourm, you know. The severe tools--editing among them--shouldn't be used anonymously.

Yes, and I even posted in that thread. As I said, it didn't even come to mind.

Well, they are two different ships, but I don't mind.
why did it just not fly straight out of orbit? (then it may have survived)
Because Troi was stupid enough to try pulling evasive manuevers with a Galaxy-class starship.

Didn't the right part of the saucer slam into a hill at one point?

The thing that always nagged me about the crash is that they say that they salvaged whats possible and left on some other ship.

But they also said that there were 3 million pre industrial humanoids on Veridian 3 ( or 4). What are they going to think when they find the remains of a GCS ??

j1j2j3: I imagine the entire ship was taken by salvage crews later and those races wouldn't discover the ship until they had a higher level of tech (probably a few hundreds years) since it didn't crash on their planet.

E-D crashed on Veridian III, which is uninhabited. The pre-industrial civilization was on Veridian IV.

Picard and Co. seem to be way more willing to ditch a ship and move on and hardly look back. When Kirk blew up the Enterprise in The Search for Spock he was very upset saying "My God, what have I done?". At the end of Generations, Picard was like "She went before her time, but I have my book so lets go number one."

Yes, but the origional Enterprise had a little more historical value and most of those guy had put more than half their lives into that ship.
