I'm on another forum that believe that they have "debunked" the myths against TDIC. No matter how hard I try (my debate skills are horribly bad)to show them that in now way could they have destroyed 1/3 of that planet. Just by the visuals alone, I stated that the E-D(E) alone could have withstood it.
Has there been an in depth discussion about this on this board? If so can someone direct me to the relevant thread? My search skills are seem to be non existent.
Any help would be great.

Nevermind, I found an old thread about the episode but nevertheless any thoughts on TDIC would be great.

Re: Request help on TDIC
nearest thing I can figure, is that even IF they did destroy 1/3rd of the crust, the planet is a rouge planet, not orbiting any star, and yet, has enough heat on it to support humanoid life (Major Kira walked on the planet without any discomfort)
the only way I can think of for that to work is if the crust on that planet was insanely thin, so that the heat from the mantle could provide surface heat to the planet, as a result, them destroying 1/3rd of the crust in the opening volley would only prove how thin that crust was, NOT how strong their weapons were.
of course, it could always just have been that the Founders were feeding them false data about the damage, just as they were about the life signs.

Moreover, you can't use Trek weapons' effects against planetary surfaces to get a good indication of their power output, due to the NDF chain reaction - they'll probably be more effective against less dense objects and less effective against more dense ones.

I don't see how anyone can take such stupidity seriously. If they destroyed one third of the crust, why don't we see the red-hot glowing magma underneath?
If you hire me to strip the wallpaper in your living room and I say I'm one third done, you would expect to see a third of the wallpaper missing. This ain't rocket science.

I know and adding to the fact that all we see is the atmospheric disturbance. I've pointed that out plus the fact that the attacks were spread out therefore the firepower was spread out lessening the potential destruction. If a Galaxy class starship can withstand that volley then the planet should even more so be able to take it in without difficulty.Darth Wong wrote:I don't see how anyone can take such stupidity seriously. Plus the fact that the Romulan\Cardies were fed false information. They were told that it would take an hour to destroy the crust yet it took them seconds to destroy a third? Plus all of these information was fed to them by a changeling posing as a Romulan commander. I was told that the false sensor readings were for life signs and not for the planetary damage.
The only way I could see them succeeding in destroying a third of the crust if the planet was made out of Kleenex.

Re: Request help on TDIC
Given that the entire freaking expedition was based on false intelligence, false sensor readings and double agents it's laughable that anyone can point to it and claim any accuracy for it especially when the visuals contradict it.
