OEEG Video: Shuttlepod One

Post by Sonnenburg »

The one where Reed and Tucker argue for forty-five minutes because Tucker is a dick.

Video

Not on topic, but I've consolidated the Red Dwarf material if anyone was interested.

LOL...oh thank you. This shit is too classic in terms of "Be happy!!!!" in the face of death, and destroys all sense of tension. But then we have some really dumb shit of the odd couple comedy. And it gets a 6/10. Wow, makes me wonder how much of the series actually tries.

One quarter of it.

I understand your concerns but one part where you may have gone overboard is the "two trains" bit; you could have cut him some slack for saying something stupid while being exhausted, frozen and about to die.

Tucker is always stupid. The circumstances don't change that for him.

6/10? Come on, thats...well, ok, perhaps it is appropriate for Enterprise - but still, that score boggles the mind.
Good review tough - not as brilliant as others, but good, solid stuff - must be made out of cheese :D

Each series score is relative to the rest of the series. A 6 in TOS is not the same as a 6 in Enterprise.

Damn you Sonnenburg, I had to spend the entire of yesterday evening watching the Red Dwarf Guide.

Still it was very interesting watching. Being British, seeing your explanation of Britishisms for Americans was very interesting. Especially your insights as to the Cat/Dog scene. Just as you can't conceive how that scene can go by without a fight, I can't conceive anyone having a problem with it.

Also of interest was the way you laid out the changing tone of the show and characters from sitcom to more science adventure as actual character growth which made sense which I'd never really noticed before. The commentary on Marooned in regards to Rimmer, I found especially good.

On the whole you taste in Red Dwarf seems similar to my own; I was especially surprised you seem to imply that disliking the episode 'Thanks For The Memory' would be considered blasphemous by Dwarfers.

A final thought: Was the Red Dwarf theme, unlike all of The Star Trek's, too awesome to replace?

That's probably accurate. It's a very cool piece of music.

The red dwarf link on the page up there has .asp.asp in the link to the series videos.

Good stuff, just don't try Lister's accent again...
