ENT Coming to Blu Ray

Post by JME2 »

From TrekMovie

You know, as much as I want to bitch about what the hell Paramount is thinking moving ENT up the release pipeline, I'll concede that since the show was shot/aired in HD, most of the work is already done.

But I'm not surprised that ENT is getting the Blu Ray treatment. It confirms that we will almost assuredly be seeing HD releases of DS9 and VOY down the road. They have to keep the cash cow pumping money after all...

If the price we have to pay for DS9 getting the HD treatment is ENT and VOY coming along with it, then so be it. It's not like anybody's actually making us buy those.
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

True.

DS9 is the only Trek I'd buy on Blu Ray.

So when is the giant all Seasoned combined Blue Ray Cube of TOS,TNG,DS9,VOY and ENT coming out? Because ENT least of all is not a show I'd care to buy. TNG I was tempted but held off, DS9 I was tempted to until I saw them hit Netflix streaming so... yeah at this point it's a hard sell unless we get episode to episode commentaries... something that costs next to nothing if your doing it with cast and crew under any kind of contract which they should have kept for ENT being made during that craze.

Probably not for at least a couple of years. It'll take time to re-render the effects from SD to HD.

Also, is anyone else expecting Paramount to continue giving DS9 the shaft by having VOY released on Blu Ray before DS9?

From a practical standpoint, DS9's likely in a better situation than Voyager since it still used model shots for most of its run and didn't go all-CGI until near the end, so for the most part the restoration process would be similar to that of TNG. Voyager only used models extensively during its first two seasons, and pretty much exclusively used CGI by the time Seven joined the cast (i.e. the period of the show that most people would actually want to watch).

To be honest though, it wouldn't surprise me if Paramount decided to just upscale the existing CGI in late DS9 and Voyager, and focused the HD restoration efforts on the live-action material.
