Star Trek Armada: 2
I am posting this here in this section, even though it is a game, because of our recent conversations about the pussification of the Borg. Anyone play this game? The Borg in this game are downright pathetic but I think they indeed reflect the Voyager Borg. Is this game cannon? Probably not...

Milites Astrum Exterminans
Yea but its so much more fun w/ single player. the game sucks either way. Every race was weekened incredably. Its an ST game with the Huge Fleet Dinamics comparable to that of the SW universe. Its like the developeres never saw a show. The Federation (and others) poweres lie on single ships with huge ammounts of power. If you want to play a good ST game, try Star Trek: Birth of the Federation.
Intrestingly enouph the orrigonal ST:Armada was baised arround the same ideas and sets of rules as the ST CCG (Collectable Card Game). Unfortunotly they didn't stick to it making the sequal

Hated Armada 1 and 2.
BOTF I liked a lot. Until you get to turn 150+ and the game takes literally 3 minutes to calculate on my P3 600. Havent played it on my P4 2gig yet though.
But I think the most accurate trek game (ship wise) would have to be SFC3. Seems to be closest to what we've seen on the show. Although the borg are complete pussies in SF3 too
Unless you download a mod. Theres a TNG mod that supposedly brings the game more in line with whats seen on TNG and DS9. Makes the borg uberifed I've heard too. Have yet to dl it though.

Re: Star Trek Armada: 2
Well the reason the Borg are pussified in the game is because you can't have this uber-race that is undefeatable and make the game fun. It is called "balance".Superman wrote:I am posting this here in this section, even though it is a game, because of our recent conversations about the pussification of the Borg. Anyone play this game? The first Armada was much better.

I always thought the three new Feddie ships in Armada 2 were pretty cool. Venture, Iwo Jima and Aegian classes. While all the races sucked, the Federation was pretty good. I never finished the last Borg mission, because the damn god mode only granted invunerablity to the Borg ships and not the Feddie ships that were working with them. Also, I don't think you had the power to warp while in fluidic space and you had to somehow protect different conduits.

Actually, it is.Superman wrote:Ok, they have one cube that is powerful. The rest of the ships are lame. And why are they using the "Hugh/Lore" Borg ship? That thing is not part of the collective!
And as others have said, any videogame portraying something like the Borg vs. Federation is going to dull them down. Yes, even moreso than they were "weakened" in VGR (which, IMO, is a kind of urban myth anyway).
I'm probably one of the few who liked Armada 2 a little bit; the first, IMO, was far, far better, one of my favorites. It's too bad pt. 2 couldn't live up to the first.
