Post by Darth Fanboy »

In Imperial STAR DESTROYERS, with the full complement of 72 TIE Fighters (lets assume they're all standard TIEs for now) and knowledge of the ships capabilities.

Kirk vs. Picard vs. Sisko vs. Janeway vs. Archer vs. Spock vs. Riker

FIRST ROUND:

Round Robin, everyone fights everyone, six matches each

all resources replenished and damage repaired after each fight (incl the ighters), so there are even terms.

SECOND ROUND:

1st place vs. 4th place
2nd place vs. 3rd place

Resources replenished, damage control left to the maintenance crews aboard the ISD

THIRD ROUND:

1st/4th vs. 2nd/3rd

For the title.

Ready........Fight!

Archer vs Sisko - Sisko wins, due to more experience with keeping foreward firing arc in line with enemy, and experience with star fighter deployment
Archer vs Kirk - oh, please... Kirk is picking Archer of his hull, unless Archer has been demonstrating sound tactical knowledge on the episodes that have still to be shown on UK terrestrial
Archer vs Spock - Spock mops up, again, mainly due to his ability to see holes in plans, ie in ST6 and TWOK
Archer vs Janeway - errr... not sure, but as both of these two wont last the round, it doesnt really matter, oh, lets say Janeway…
Archer vs Riker – Riker wins, more experience commanding a battle cruiser, proven ability to execute and counter tactical strategies
Archer vs Picard - Picard wins, Archer has no real experience with advanced tactical manuevers after flying a ship with no real weapons, will be at a serious tactical disadvantage
Picard vs Sisko – not sure, I’d say Picard, as he does use manoeuvres and plans, whilst Sisko was usually following someone else plans usually, and the Defiant was always more of a point-and-fire ship.
Picard vs Spock – Spock – has as good a tactical mind as Picard, if not better, and can probably pick apart the strategies
Picard vs Riker – well, we saw this, if Riker knows his ship and Picard’s ship, then he may be able to manipulate that, I think Riker’s edge may give him what’s needed.
Picard vs Janeway – I’d say Picard would win both of these engagements, mainly from the experience with heavy cruisers point of view, although Janeway may be able to use the fighters more effectively after constant reliance on the Delta Flyer…
Picard vs Kirk – Kirk – I think, although it might be fairly close, Kirk has the random unpredictable element going for him, but may be caught if Picard manages to get a successful strategy going. Add to that the fact that Picard mindmelded with Sarek after Kirk did, so he will know Kirk’s mind by imprint, but Kirk will not know his… Picard might actually be able to do it… let’s say he wins this one…
Kirk vs Spock – oooh, close, but I think I’d give it to Kirk, as even though Spock knows him well, I don’t think he could predict all of Kirks manoeuvres
Kirk vs Sisko – you know, I might actually have to give it to Sisko, when it comes down to it, Kirk’s never been in a star fighter battle or massive fleet engagement, close one tho…
Kirk vs Riker – close, not sure… could be a draw with both ships disabled, as both captains are tactically minded and are prepared to use extreme tactics, really couldn’t decide on this one- will say Riker, as he does have more experience commanding a heavy cruiser with multiple firing arcs…
Kirk vs Janeway – Kirk wins, again, Janeway has never been one for strategy, and I think Kirk’s random element will probably pull through again..,
Janeway vs Sisko – easy win for Sisko again, better fighter experience and more combat time against heavy battleships (discounting borg)
Janeway vs Spock – Spock. ‘Nuff said.
Janeway vs Riker – Riker wins, more or less repeat of Kirk/Janeway match
Sisko vs Riker – close one… tossed coin, Riker wins.
Sisko vs Spock – possibily Sisko, he does have that certain random edge that may work too his favour
Riker vs Spock – err… neither of them have much experience with fighters, I think Rikers random edge may do it…

Summary

Name Won Lost
Picard 4 2
Archer 0 6
Janeway 1 5
Kirk 3 3
Riker 5 1
Spock 4 2
Sisko 4 2

Ok, so, in a surprise turn up, Kirk, Archer and Janeway go out, Kirk may not have gone out if I could remember more of TOS episodes, but there we go…

So

Riker (by toss of coin) – currently first
Picard – joint second
Sisko
Spock

Will go off decisive wins.
2 decisive wins for Sisko
2 decisive wins for Picard
3 decisive wins for Spock

Sisko and Picard – decisive losses to decide 3/4th

1 decisive loss for Picard
0 decisive loss for Sisko (I think, my descriptions are kind of hard to judge)

So:
Riker plays Picard
Sisko plays Spock

1st battle
Tricky one, Picard fights better this time round, knows Riker’s strategies better, more suspicious of Riker’s sneaky manoeuvres, might actually give it to Picard here, as it would a more strategic game…

2nd Battle

Again, Spock will have learnt from the last match, I think he may have learnt enough to be able to counteract Sisko’s unpredictable manoeuvres, close win for Spock.

3rd Round

Assume you mean a 2 on 2 match…

Riker and Picard vs Sisko and Spock

Well, Riker and Picard do have a history together, ability to communicate complex strategies and think up fancy manoeuvres on the fly (see Riker manoeuvre), working together, I think these guys are quite the strategic team…

But… Spock can do strategic breakdowns and sisko would be more prepared to do daring things when against the odds.

I think Riker and Picard get it, I think… close one though, as Riker and Picard together as a pair would work together brilliantly, with both strategy and random very well mixed in… advantage of working together for who-knows-how long, but I think Sisko and Spock will do admirably, wouldn’t put it past Sisko for a last dramatic flourish… as his star destroyer smashes into Riker or Picards.

Winners – Picard and Riker

Note - I cant guarantee this is free from subjective decisions, and I cant guarantee its consistent either, I have to get some revision done today, and this was written in a hurry. Tried to keep it free from bias, even though I didnt think that Kirk would have gone out in the first round.

Winners in this order after all the fights:

1) Kirk

2) Sisko

3) Riker

4) Spock

5) Picard

6) Janeway

7) Archer

Kirk and Sisko are the only true "warriors" in this group. Sisko and Kirk both have a keen grasp of tactics and strategy and both have seen some heavy action. I go with Kirk over Sisko because I think that Kirk thinks better on his feet and would be more creative tactically than Sisko, who is a more traditional fighter who uses tried and true tactics.

Riker comes in as number three because he was a transparent attempt at remaking Kirk lite. But he is the Diet Coke of Kirks. Still he has shown a tendency to be a good tacical thinker and he comes up with a surprise or two. I happen to think Sisko is far more aggressive however and like a pitbull once he gets hold of Riker he won't let go.

Picard rounds out the top fighters. Never struck me as a tactician or great fighter, far too much the diplomat. Picard manuever or not he is obviously not some tactical or military genius and in Peak Performance Riker was well on his way to handing him his ass.

Spock - Not a fighter but not a slouch either, his keen logical mind will prove a daunting task to overcome but as shown several times in TOS (Galileo 7 for one) his focus on logic hampers his flexibility.

Janeway - AWFUL AWFUL captain. The fact that the Kazon were able to take her ship should have had her court martialed as soon as she stepped off the ship in the Alpha quadrant.

Archer - I have seen a grand total of three Enterprise episodes. At no time did I ever think he was much of a fighter.
Wherever you go, there you are.

Bump, before It gets too stale.

Also, That I meant by that was that the WINNERS of those two matches face each other for the supreme title.
