Who says El Aurians are dangerous to Q maybe it was just Guinan, Q did say she wasn't what she appeared to be remember.Gil Hamilton wrote: The other is that it's clear that the El Aurians (Guinan's folk) got whipped by the Borg and that they crushed them utterly. But when Q shows up and runs into Guinan, he shits himself and the two of them look like they are going to bust out in Mortal Kombat, this after Q cleared Ten Forward of it's inhabitants, but failed to move Guinan. Q made it clear that she was very very dangerous, and this is Mr. Arrogant "I'm am Almighty" Q saying it. So it leads to this question. If El Aurians are dangerous to Q, and Q could snap his fingers and make the Borg "civilization" vanish... how did the Borg beat the El Aurians in the first place?

The quick way to explain Q Who is simple, they were interested in the ship because they thought that it had an FTL drive better than transwarp - namely Q, though they didn't know that.
Later, once they assimilated Picard's knowlage they lost interest in Federation technology.

Guinan: Prehaps she is dangeous to Q because of her link to The Nexus, which still exists. (the nexus 'echo' of her knew who picard was)
Cosmic energy levels are dangerous to the Q, as their weapons seem to induce supernovae. I don't even want to guess how much energy is in that strange ribbon thing.

IIRC, Q specifically said that is was her species that were "Imps" and were dangerous. I could be wrong though.TheDarkling wrote:Who says El Aurians are dangerous to Q maybe it was just Guinan, Q did say she wasn't what she appeared to be remember.

It's possible El Aurians are more powerful than they sometimes make themselves out to be, but there are a no. of limits on what they can do.TheDarkling wrote:Gil Hamilton wrote:IIRC, Q specifically said that is was her species that were "Imps" and were dangerous. 1--Can't travel through space without ships, let alone at FTL.
2--Can't escape physical death any better than ordinary folk...phasers, falling from heights, Borg...all kill them.
3--Can't use telepathic powers to manipulate humans, Klingons, androids, etc. like puppets.
4--Can't make themselves appear to be something they're not. Guinan was instantly recognized by Q. Soran was quickly recognized by Guinan, both of which being times it'd be advantageous to assume a difference face or whatever.
5--Can't summon superhuman reflexes...Guinan's a good shot, and Soran was a decent fist-fighter, but neither did things another humanoid couldn't improve upon in the same situations.
6--Can't change time or manipulate space a'la the Traveler.
What they can do is read your mind, but not thoroughly; Soran knew Picard was suffering because of something to do with a fire, but he couldn't read Geordi's mind well enough to come up with the E-D's shield frequencies. Intensity of emotion might have something to do with Soran's ability to read Picard in that scene.
They have a keen sense of time, and might have some kind of telekinetic powers (a possible reason why Guinan raised her hands in a kind of "magic pose" against Q). They're extremely long-lived, though it would appear that they have no control over the rate at which they age (Soran's white hair).
Why Guinan would be a threat to Q, I dunno...rather than some super abilities we might ascribe to El Aurians, I favor a weakened Q angle. I'm just not sure how to go about it. Where is Wayne when you need him?
Pain, or damage, don't end the world, or despair, or fuckin' beatin's. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, ya got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man ... and give some back.

For I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see,
Saw the Vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be;
Saw the heavens fill with commerce, argosies of magic sails,
Pilots of the purple twilight dropping down with costly bales;
Heard the heavens fill with shouting, and there rain'd a ghastly dew
From the nations' airy navies grappling in the central blue;

They said something along the lines of "your defence capabilities are insufficient to withstand us. Do not resist or you will be punished."apocolypse wrote:I haven't seen Q Who or BOBW in a while, but what did the original Borg message say?
