Theoreticaly, it could be done. Thats about as far as I am willing to go on the subject though.Jeremy wrote:Here is a stupid question from a stupid person, myself: Could they transport (beam) sections of the ship in and out of place? there would be huge problems with that idea, even if you beamed in section you'd have to either make the process extremely precess as to make the 100s probably 1000s of connections between the various tubes/wires ect.... or beam them in so that you'd have to attach each and every wire yourself which would be very labor intensive.Jeremy wrote:Here is a stupid question from a stupid person, myself: Could they transport (beam) sections of the ship in and out of place? Hold on. A GCS has twelve phaser banks, counting the one mounted in front of the Battle Bridge.Ender wrote:A Defiant class does actually pack more firepower then a TNG era GCS. A defiant carries 4 pulse phasers, 3 type 8 phasers, and 120 Quantum torpedoes, whitle the TNG GCS carries 250 older model photon topredoes and 10 type 10 phasers. Using my Night Terrors values and the sites work on phasers, (though this works out to be about the same using pretty much any set of values for the weapons) you get total outputs of all torps and one set of phaser fire equalling 6.44 GT and 4.7 GT respectively. Of course, once the GCS gets the Dominion War upgrades it can lay out 14.8 GT.
As for the Lakota fight, keep in mind that it appears that Worf was trying to avoid destroying the ship based on how often he missed.
And those figures are misleading; the ships cannot focus *all* of their weapons at each other. I've heard somewhere that a larger phaser strip allows for stronger shots from that strip, which would change things a bit.
There's also a firing rate issue. How fast can a Defiant fire quantum torpedoes? We know a prewar GCS can spit out half a dozen torpedos in slightly less than 2 seconds and can fire a volley of repeated shots from the main phaser array. (TNG The Survivors)
Finally, how much damage can the two ships absorb? Whenever the Defiant took a hit, I thought the bridge was going to catch fire from all the console explosions and sparks. The E-D rarely had console explosions, and those usually only after particularly brutal beatings.
Even though the Defiant might have more raw firepower than a Galaxy, I think the GCS would still retain the ability to thump a Defiant.

I would doubt that would be to hard for them... AFTER ALL THEY MANAGED TO MAKE HOLOGRAPHIC LUNGS!!!! ::shakes hand at Voyager::

On the larger phaser banks idea, there is some tenative evidence in TNG. Just about every time the Ent-D fired from the ventral phaser array it did little damage-and indicated it would lose the fight. It rarely used the larger dorsal array, but when it did it tended to win the battle. Also, most of the time the dorsal array was used against very powerful foes-and didn't win the fight, but indicated greater combat ability.Uraniun235 wrote:Hold on. And yes, the Ent-D does have 12 phaser arrays-11 exposed in standard configuration.
What, on the original E-D? You're full of it.
Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.
You are incorrect. There are eleven exposed arrays and an additional array being covered by the saucer (it is exposed for the battle section in saucer seperation)Jeremy wrote:I count only three on the original.

I see the two on the saucer, the one on the bottom of the Engineering Hull, and (now that I have a picture) the one on the Battle Bridge.
Where are the others?

For starters that shows there is one phaser array on each pylon. So thats five now.

Two more, thats seven.

At the bottom near the rear torpedo launcher you see two more, and there are two mirroring the underside. Thats eleven.
The 12th array is hidden when the saucer is attached.
Interestingly enough, there is a War GCS variant with 14 arrays. It has arrays on its warp engines similar to the Galaxy-X. Even more interesting, the Galaxy-X has 16 arrays, one large phaser cannon, at least one torpedo launcher (forward), and countless other weapon systems (most logical conclussion).

Re: amazing
Actually, no. The original Galaxy and Nebula class were not warships. The Akira was. The War Upgrades merely put the Galaxy and Nebula into a level similar to the Akira.Jeremy wrote:truely amazing
The Akira might have had a war upgrade.

The Excelsior is a possibility. We have seen several examples of its man phaser array having a firepower similar to that of torpedoes. This explains why the Excelsior is one of the Federation ships to never fire their torpedoes in DS9. Its possible that class of ship recieved an upgrade on the main phasers in the saucer section making them "Gunboats".Darth Pounder wrote:Ok in a slight change of subject but still on topic apart from the Galaxy class and Nebula class what other ships got a war refit?
