Abrams-verse Trek Novels Coming in 2010

Post by JME2 »

From Pocket Books
THE SUMMER OF JJ TREK
"You can’t see a new Star Trek movie this summer, but you can read the books," is Clark’s tagline for Pocket’s plans for Summer 2010. Last week we reported that Alan Dean Foster was going to be writing a sequel novel to JJ Abrams’ Star Trek movie, but that is just the beginning. That novel will be followed by three more, also set after the events of the Star Trek movie. According to Clark, each of the novels will stand alone, so you don’t need to read them all, or in any specific order. The authors are allowed to "play with anything they want, as long as when they are done they put everything back in the box the way they found it," says Clark. The focus for each book will be moving the story on with a new mission, and not going back to the movie and trying to fill in blanks or ‘fix’ anything. The novels are being done independently from the script (from Orci, Kurtzman & Lindelof) for Star Trek sequel film, currently in development.

June
"Refugees" by Alan Dean Foster
No details, except that the ‘refugees’ are not the Vulcans.

July
"Seek a Newer World" by Christopher Bennett
Enterprise on a "world-building" mission, but again not the Vulcans.

August
"More Beautiful than Death" by David Mack
Finally, this one will deal with the Vulcans remaining after the destruction of their home planet.

September
Untitled 4th New Star Trek Movie era book
The fourth book is not yet under contract, so no details are available, but it will possibly be a Scotty story.
Huh. You know, I was wondering how the Trek EU was going to respond to the alternate reality of XI. Good to see the novel output will be a combination of Prime-Trek and Alt-Trek and that the former won't be eliminated.

I want to know if the Prime books are going to incorporate Romulus going kabloowey which supposedly happened in the prime verse.

Or if they'll completely ignore it because it didn't actually happen in the prime verse at all? Ref. Stark.

The explosion of Romulus occurred in 2388; the 24th century books are at roughly 2382, so it may happen eventually.

Doesn't change the point of the argument though; there is no concrete(viz canon) evidence that the universe Spock Prime came from was the one we all grew up watching; it's just as plausible to say that the whole shebang was already an alternate reality and the events were already set in motion.

This has been covered already in several threads though, and it's a moot point in here until the books come out. As the OP says, that ain't for nearly a year.

Star Trek Online has incorporated the destruction of Romulus into its storyline, being set in the 'Prime' timeline in 2401. A game sure, but just as admissible as the novels in context?

Even if Spock is from the Prime Universe. It's certainly further on from where the current novels have brought it.
Reading the prequeal comic revelas that B4 has become Data and is now Captain of the Enterprise-E while Picard is ambassador to Vulcan.
The stardate is 64467.14 in the last section featuring the Ent-E whereas the Destiny trilogy set only is sixteen months after Nemisis
