So we learn that Harry is just very confused and living in a closet more then not.

Poor, dumb Harry. I always thought he was bland, but you make me realize that he was so much more fucked up than anybody ever realized.
That was awesome.

Re: OVEG Video: The Disease
So Harry gets his chops busted for getting laid, but Kirk, Riker, Troi, Crusher, etc., etc. can get all they want without anyone batting an eye. Heck, the TNG Season 1 episode had "Justice", I think, where the crew were all excited about the prospect of shore leave among the free-lovin' Edo.
And surely this isn't some kind of effort to preach about safe sex or sexual freedom or such like, is it?
And just what the hell did happen with Seven and Harry there at the end?

Re: OVEG Video: The Disease
Well, not having watched the episode myself, I wouldn't be able to say if this is accurate, but Harry might be in trouble for not telling the Doctor directly; for example, in the British Army as of the 40s-50s, you wouldn't get in official trouble for getting an STD, but you would be in official trouble for not telling a medical officer.
Well, that or Janeway just has it in for Harry.

Re: OVEG Video: The Disease
Seven felt pity for Harry, and offered herself physically as a means of easing his emotional pain.Ted C wrote:And just what the hell did happen with Seven and Harry there at the end?
OK, maybe not that ; what actually happened is Seven of Nine was perplexed why Harry was refusing medical treatment for his condition of 'love', instead chosing to suffer with it until the emotions/influence went away. To which Seven of Nine responded that perhaps her interpretation of love as a disease was flawed, and instead could be a source of strength.

Re: OVEG Video: The Disease
To be fair, Seven did offer to have sex with Harry in another episode. Harry turned her down.

Maybe there's a existing medical files for the Edo and other assorted species, so they would know what to expect?Ted C wrote:So Harry gets his chops busted for getting laid, but Kirk, Riker, Troi, Crusher, etc., etc. can get all they want without anyone batting an eye. Re: OVEG Video: The Disease
I doubt that. If memory serves me right the E-D was transporting a group of colonists to a planet close to the Edo homeworld and the crew was surprised to find a chance for a shoreleave (on Risa 2.0). To me the Edo appeared to be a first contact or at least a rather unknown species.Gandalf wrote:Maybe there's a existing medical files for the Edo and other assorted species, so they would know what to expect?

Wow. I haven't seen any fictional character this screwed up outside of Gainax shows. I think Harry would find piloting a giant robot powered by the soul of his dead, genocidal mom and having a crush on a partial clone of said mom to be relatively tame.

Riker led a survey at the start of the ep, so perhaps they did a check?

Re: OVEG Video: The Disease
Nobody in the first survey team remembered to check the laws of the Edo which lead to the near death of a certain wunderkind (he did survive in the end... )Gandalf wrote:Riker led a survey at the start of the ep, so perhaps they did a check?
If it can be everything from quite stressfull[1] to full blown suicidal to not know the laws of a country that you are visiting here on Earth checking those laws on a foreign planet should have been the very first thing to do. But then again it was Tasha Yar as Security Chief... who didn't even react when Q appeared on the bridge during Mission Farpoint.
[1] There was once a case of an American tourist who thought that it was legal to walk around in the buff in Germany. He was arrested and fined. There are areas for nudists (beaches, resorts etc.) but these are explicitly marked and most are shielded from public view.

Re: OVEG Video: The Disease
Why did Janeway come down so hard on Harry? Surely we all know the answer to that one. Harry is Janeway's bitch —he is never to forget that for even one atto-second of his miserable existence, and neither shall any of the rest of the crew that she rules with an iron fist.

Re: OVEG Video: The Disease
Coming down hard on him gives her some selfconfidence, and it's safe to come down on Harry because he will understand it and perhaps even thank her for it. For the writers who seem focused on making Janeway the perfect person, this is a very safe and even effective way to give her authority without breaking any characters except making Janeway more evil.Patrick Degan wrote:Why did Janeway come down so hard on Harry?
