Personally, the thing that always cracked me up about this ep was, as pointed out, the Borg's RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE at the end, combined with the ambush scene; "THERE THEY ARE! RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!"

Knew the Sheridan reference was coming when I heard "the Agamemnon".

Oh Troi. Why is it that very time you're involved I get the feeling that the Enterprise's counselor needs a counselor?

Incidentally, the first erotic Star Trek fan fiction story I read in the early 1990s was based on this episode and the counseling session between Troi and Data. The somewhat predictable idea was that Troi wanted to experiment if the stimulation Data received from the porn was strong enough and decided to provide some real life stimulation of her own. It still did not work for Data, but because he wanted learn more about human sexual behavior and his ethical programming makes him a nice guy in general, he basically ends up as Troi's highly realistic and fully functional sex toy...

Incidentally, reading your post caused my eyes to explode in a gout of flame with boiling blood erupting from their now empty sockets.
As always, a decent review. Something I always wondered about this episode, what with the borg shooting and all, is weather those weapons were scavenged or standard designs that the borg use when they don't want to assimilate people.

LOL Troi dumped Riker
This was one of the funnier reviews for me; I found myself giggling almost the entire time. If I haven't said it before, thank you for the reviews, video and written ones too.

I guess the deal with Obvious of Borg and Crosus there was they wanted to contrast them greatly with normal Borg, and the easiest way to do that is to have them never shut the hell up.
As for Troi.. her absolute failure of a therapy session with Data actually makes a lot of sense, she normally relies on her empathic ability to deal with patients. She outright says so in that episode where she loses it. Data being an android can't be read in that manner, so naturally she's horrible at therapy with him.

Really? Because as far as sexual fantasy fanfics go, that's pretty vanilla stuff. I can't find anything really horrible about it, it's just mildly amusing. It's not like it involves Captain Janeway or anything...

I would have liked to see an OTNGEG on Datalore before we got this one, or whichever one it was where Data commandeers the Enterprise to go and see Soong. I dunno, I just think it would've given a more complete picture.

I'll second that. My first encounters (shortly after the show first came out) were some pretty tame softcore fan fiction in the form of printed hard copies that were stapled together and sold via print catalogs or at conventions. Since the Internets exploded in size and scope the degree of hardcore fan fiction encompassing every possible fetish has appeared on various sites that host those kinds of stories. Rule 34 indeed!

You've read Wil Wheaton's review of it, yes? His tone isn't that far off Chuck's, although obviously not as analytical.

A therapist who can't psychoanalyze people without the ability to read their minds is like a pilot who can't fly by instruments. Mental health is something humans have been doing for centuries without a Betazoid's empathic abilities, so why doesn't Troi have any training outside of her powers?

Not one of my favorites from TNG; best part is the poker match in the beginning.
