One of the first things I notice is this is much more tied into the other Pocket Books, after a couple of brief scenes with Calhoun we’re treated to a Seven Of Nine section. Who’s now purged of all cybernetics. Also references the death of Janeway and other events I assume took place in TNG/VGR relaunch novels.

Second; its seems like a good thing, NF isn’t canon. The haters would have such a field day on computer security here. Morgan; a human mind imprinted on a galaxy classes’ computer system is practically omniscient and omnipotent as far as the Federation in concerned. Apparently make the entire Starfleet self-destruct for shits’n’giggles if she wanted.

Finally for now, Kat Mueller continues to be awesome, also stricked with survivor’s guilt and possessing an attitude toward’s children similar to Chuck’s caricature of early TNG Picard.

Well its not the best New Frontier no more ever. There was no more Mueller or Trident aftermath. And there's a lot more contemplation of just how awesome Calhoun is and how he's more than a normal mortal.

Normally I like Peter David's frequent references to other sci-fi series. Though I think they've slid too far to the fore front in the last couple of novels. Treason had Mueller saying that 'Never give up, never surrender' was/should be the starfleet motto. While in this novel Soleta is introduced to the Voyager's EMH as 'The Doctor' she responds that 'I've met someone called The Doctor, he wore a brown coat and a blue suit. This isn't him' Implying she's met the Tenth Doctor from Doctor Who.

Then at the very climax of the book, the EMH activates a virius using the phrase 'I'm Sorry. I'm So Sorry' a catchphrase of the Tenth Doctor. While the phrase does match the EMH's emotions and makes sense in context, it was such an obvious reference that mafe me burst out laughing, tearing me out of what was supposed to be a quite serious scene.
