Major Kira reported that the UFP lost 1730 from the latest casualty reports.
How come the UFP took such light losses? After that I don't know what you're saying.
Anyway, it might be because infantry wise, the Klingons were bearing the brunt of it, and UFP ships aren't that filled to capacity.

Losses on the ground are likely minimal because ground weapons heavier than a rifle are largely lacking and the big battles mostly take place in space. Losses in space, I'm not sure.

JasonB, you better learn how to spell.
You sound like a major retard or somebody who gives no thought to his post.
Whatever the reason, shape up.

If that was 1,730 people for say, one day on one desolate planet with only a few random spots being fought over like the communications relay, and with the Federation having highly advanced wound healing technology that probably means they simply don't report lightly wounded men (nor do many real militaries, especially in the world wars) that isn't exactly light. In other words without more information you can’t draw any real conclusions. 1,730 people a day even in one whole system would easily mean millions of casualties per year in the war.

As someone who has battled Jason\JasonB, I can 100% tell you that he will not get any better. He'll keep posting irrelevant crap and will debate the same shit from different angles. He will not concede. EVER.
He has a WoI so thick and strong that no known weapons of logic and reason will penetrate. That is why the topic generally degenerates in insulting him.
He's worse over at asvs.com.
His only worth to this board is to be a verbal punching bag.

Wasn't it 1730 for the WEEK? As in, the Federation is losing close to 2000 starfleet personnel every seven days? This was during a time of relatively 'mild' fighting when there were just border skirmishes.

Quick edit: I meant to say asvs.org, not .com.

Wait a minute.
There's still an ASVS?

Yes there is. The original is still around but pretty much dead and Tyralak has set up his own ASVS forum on his site. asvs.org.

That's how I read it. The reports were the weekly ones that Sisko posted in
In the Pale Moonlight. The losses were for Starfleet, and thus included those at AR-558.

You'd expect casualties to surge during major engagements, such as the battles at Chintoka or the fight to retake DS9- after all, Starfleet lost thousands of lives at the Battle of Wolf 359, and that was a relatively small-scale engagement, compared to what we saw in DS9.

Thousands of lives, how does that translate into ships lost? IIRC the Galaxy class had some 800 crew but much of those were civilians who I would expect were not on board during the war. But is there any cannon data on the actual crew compliments?

The Enterprise has the capacity to carry a fuckload of people, it's just that in peacetime you don't need to carry thousands. The Enterprise in the alternate timeline that was at war with the klingons had thousands of troops onboard.
