Why did Q never bother with the other species?

Post by FaxModem1 »

Pretty much the story of TNG is the story of Q putting humanity on trial and Picard proving him wrong, or Picard learning from Q's lessons about exploration.

Now, why have the Klingons, or the Cardassians, or the Romulans ever been put on trial for their barbarity? They would seem much more guilty of it. So why not them?

Who's to say he didn't? We don't exactly see everything Q does, you know. Or the workings of other races.

And Did he ever mention what the punishment for failure was?

Most of the other species seem to have made spacefall well before humanity, so it's possible that they had their trials with the Q long before warp drive was a twinkle in Zefram Cochrane's eye.

I personally like to think that the Klingons got a pass in much the same way the Inquisitor gave a pass to Rimmer and the Cat in Red Dwarf - sure, they're a race of warlike morons, but that's probably all they're realistically ever likely to be. Whereas humanity could be more, but had lapsed into stagnation by the mid-24th century.

According to "All Good Things..." Q was going to deny Humans their existence. Of course, he was messing with Picard at the time.

Baltar: "What are you babbling about other...it's impossible!"
Centurion: "No. It is a Battlestar."

Wasn't the punishment in Encounter at Farpoint going to be humans couldn't go any farther? They were going to be stuck on Earth and not allowed anywhere else?

For all we know he did once pay Ph'KaHd the Klingon captain a visit, or pestered some random Tal Shiar agent. It's not like the main cast would be in any position to know, nor would he have much reason to tell them.

The Q had issues with humanity and saw them as a threat / rival.
Typical human wanking which causes Q to go apeshit when he tries to recruit Riker into being a Q.

We do know that Q messed with other races because he needed to seek asylum on the Enterprise when he became mortal. Wether that was him just being a dick or putting them on trial is a complete unknown.

Remember, the Q knew that the human race was destined to surpass them. Maybe Q was testing them to see if they are worthy of that ascension?

I thought it was Picard who claimed that humanity would one day surpass the Q, and Q basically accused him of talking crap? Then again, considering the Q's appearances of Voyager, maybe Picard actually hit it on the nose. :P

No it was Q who feared that humans may one day surpass the Q. It was just another example of human wanking syndrome which occurs in fiction.

Well it wouldn't be that bad of human wanking if it actually means that the Q don't actually have integral superpowers, but rather just some really advanced personal technology. Given the way random people in Star Trek do things invent weapons to blow up stars in such a manner that the starlight of the explosive breaks the speed of light ect... it kind of fits in context.
