Pakleds of Doom
Assume for a moment that the Dowd's story from "The Survivors" is completely true. The Husnock were real, their ships were as nasty as the illusory one he created, and while the Husnock are dead, all the stuff they built is still there.
And the Pakleds find it.
They've found stuff to make them go... what are they gonna do with it?

Re: Pakleds of Doom
I don't think there's any way to resolve the question in the OP in any meaningful way. Either the Pakleds can figure out how to work the derelict Husnock ships, or they can't. If they can't, someone else likely will. If they can, is there any guarantee they can do anything with it before they get tricked by some plucky Starfleet Captain? Who knows, but probably not.
Re: Pakleds of Doom
The Pakleds have starships that they seem to operate well enough. Their "breakdown" in "The Samaritan Snare" was pretty clearly a ruse. They're not the brightest bulbs in the drawer, and they don't seem to develop technology on their own, but they can operate technology once they have it, so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they can figure out how to operate Husnock technology. They might not be as quick as a Federation recovery team, but they'd get it done.
The question is, what would they try to do with it? They were bright enough to sucker the crew of the Enterprise for a while, so I don't know how easy it would be to trick them if you don't already have an "inside man" to help you set up a scam.

Youtube video of Husnock warship versus EnterpriseTed C wrote:They've found stuff to make them go... what are they gonna do with it?
From the above video it appears that the Husnock warship can easily shrug off multiple full power assaults from Starfleet's top of the line flagship while in turn crippling it's opponent's shields with only a couple of blasts, never mind Data's analysis indicting the Husnock warship was capable of 'far more powerful bursts'.
This doesn't bode well for any encounter between such a ship and any standard Alpha quadrant power (even if they bring multiple ships to the battle), since it doesn't stretch credibility that destroying a Galaxy class starship in just a few blasts is within it's capabilities. Depending how rapidly it could recharge it's weapons and the shield capacity of the ship, it could even be a fleet killer against a power like the Federation.
The problem is that is all we have to go by and the numerous unknown assumptions we'd have to plug into the idea proposed here. The Husnock warship we saw could be their equivalent of a top of line, rare class warship and the rest of their fleet is much less powerful. Or it could be their equivalent of an underpowered scout ship...we just don't know. We've merely established a lower limit combat capability of a single ship.
With the stated assumptions of the OP, the Pakleds could either be a dangerous nuisance with a couple of powerful ships at their disposal or the newest big player of the quadrant everyone else needs to stay out of the way from and suck up to. If it's the former situation, I'd expect the standard powers would formulate plans to disable/destroy the Pakled influence utilizing superior numbers and force, and attempt to capture as much of the technology for themselves and then get involved in the usual attempts at first pickings. If it's the latter situation, I would expect others would rush to in to be 'allies' of the new Pakled empire, while having no real respect for them and being primarily interested in undermining and then overthrowing their control of the technology.

The thing is, why hasn't anyone scavenged every available ship\tech from the Husnock since only the people were wiped out?

Irrelevant. The OP has constructed a scenario for us to work with where that isn't the case.Enigma wrote:The thing is, why hasn't anyone scavenged every available ship\tech from the Husnock since only the people were wiped out?

You do realise that's a creation of the immortal, super powered being on the planet below, thus not a real display of it's capabilities.Singular Intellect wrote:Youtube video of Husnock warship versus EnterpriseTed C wrote:They've found stuff to make them go... what are they gonna do with it?

For purposes of this discussion, the Douwd's illusion is basically a replica of a real Husnock warship, so it IS a display of their abilities.fordlltwm wrote:You do realise that's a creation of the immortal, super powered being on the planet below, thus not a real display of it's capabilities.

Re: Pakleds of Doom
I assume we don't mean the one that was easily driven off, but it's capabilities when it came back all badass?
Well, the Pakleds can now defeat any AQ power one-on-one. Any notion how many ships they'd have? I doubt a single ship could stand up against the Domion War scale fleets the other governments could throw if they became a real problem.

The Husnock reportedly had a population of 50 billion, so that should be five to ten planets worth; similar to the number of major planets in the Federation (Earth, Vulcan, Andor, etc.).Ahriman238 wrote:Well, the Pakleds can now defeat any AQ power one-on-one. Any notion how many ships they'd have?

Re: Pakleds of Doom
What the OP is forgetting is that most indications (Many appearances as extras on DS9, being playable in Star Trek Online) point to the Pakleds joining the Federation in some capacity or other by the 2370s.

Re: Pakleds of Doom
Deep Space Nine was Bajoran territory, not Federation, hence why rebels to the Klingon Empire, such as the Duras sisters, were allowed on station to conduct business. The Pakleds could very well do the same.
