Fixing the Continuity of Star Trek

I haven't watched Enterprise much at all, Ive seen at most 2-3 episodes. However, from what I've read here the Continutiy sounds really fucked up. It occured to m e that there are two possible ways to fix this.

1. Say that everything that happened on Enterprise becomes classified at some future date, if no one knows that it happened then technically every first contact will seem l ike a first contact in the future.

2. That because of the tinkering that the the previous ST shows did with the timeline, this is actually an alternate timeline, things happening in this timeline have the correct continuity...... for this timeline.

1. is such bullshit, those encounters reveal information that could prove very useful to the Federation/Starfleet at a later date, to arbitrarily classify it would be utterly pointless and stupid.

2. is a hideous copout. It works, but damned if it doesn't leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

I'm more partial to just plain ignoring Enterprise. Who needs to fix it when nobody gives a shit about it?

Doesn't the credits say that Enterprise is only inspired by ST or based on it or something? That means it isn't really part of the universe we know. :D

This sounds like the best explanation to me, ENT is wrought with discontinuity even by Star Trek standards... and alternate timelines are very common in ST, so why not another one?

Actually I j ust realized that having the Borg present in Antarctica proves that number two is the case. They would not be present if this were not an alternate timeline.

The other reason we need an explaination is for when ST gets back into the hands of someone competent.

Fixing the continuity of Star Trek at this point is about as feasible a project as trying to fix the Tacoma Narrows Bridge (a.k.a. "Galloping Gertie").

My personal prefrence would be to use the "Kane from Command & Conquer Method" but single silenced headshots to both Berman & Bragga are not allowed in polite society for some unknown reason.

I once started a round robin about the Eugenics wars & Mirror Mirror Timelines invading both TNG/Voyager & Enterprise timelines and the only way to save everything was to get Nemoy, Shatner & Co. to fix things.

I believe the common answer is that this timeline was created due to the Enterprise travelling back in time to stop the Borg. That explains why, though not very well, original Enterprise looks like an Akira or at least with standard starship parts like a saucer and pyloned nacelles and all, if Cochrane saw the Enterprise in orbit he could have influenced the design.

And there's the whole Temporal Cold War angle that is an easy way to explain any discontinuities.

Maybe Temporal Cold War Guy is Roddenberry in disguise trying to fix all the continuity problems?

Can we have the 29th century Federation folks from Voyager eaten by Morlocks from th 49th century?

I think TNG, DS9, and Voy also had the "based on ST" label.

I just got back from a vacation in Las Vegas. I went on the "Star Trek Experience" twice at the Hilton. (Which is really pretty fun heh)

Before the actual ride you walk through a sort of museum filled with trek history, timelines, artifacts, and other props from all the shows. All the captions are worded like you should be from Trek's future looking back on the Federations history.

Enterprise is clearly presented among the rest of the Trek series. The uniforms, models, props, are all displayed. Events from Enterprise are listed in the timeline.

Now the ride itself would not be considered "canon", but the place is riddles with paramount logo's everywhere. Sounds like they consider it part of the universe regardless

The solution is obvious. The final episode of Enterprise should end with Bob Newhart awakening with a start and telling his wife about the bizarre dream he jst had. Problem solved!

Treat it like an Ewoks cartoon. Continunity problems solved.

An interesting idea, the one with certain events already seen in Enterprise
being classified, and later, other events passed off as the 'official'
First Contact and so on. This would clear up many things, including my
'fav' error, How many years later Picard and co. become the 'first'
people to meet Ferengi, when Archer and Trip have now been shown
to have met them before.

Fixing the Tacoma Narrows is simple compared to Trek. Atleast with the TNB you'd need to simply replace the closed sides with open flow-through structures. No easy feat since it was already built, but not impossible.

Trek however..
