Okay, this is gonna be far fetched, but I always thought it would be cool if there was a colony somewhere, somehow, founded by Americans, Brits, and Aussies. And that the federation and that colony would fight.

The Americans, Brits, and Aussies would be technologically behind the Feds, but they have know how to really fight and its and even battle.

I got the idea for this from the game 2300 AD where an entire planet becomes an American State after decided it no longer wanted to be colony.

Anywho, some sort of bloody war would be cool.

So many forumers (here or otherwise) have proposed a "Federation Civil War" movie that it seems already cliche'd before it's even been produced.

It's also completely and totally anathemic to Star Trek. Personally, I think it would be the ultimate stake in the heart for Star Trek. By doing a major Federation Civil War, you effectively destroy the entire premise of ST; that humans have (for the most part, with exceptions of course) generally become a better species, much better than to engage in significantly bloody battles with each other. Hell, one of the reasons people lambast the TNG movies (esp. Insurrection) is that nobody seems to know just what the fuck the movie is about; and now you want to totally discard any premise the franchise might have?

I suppose it seems like a good idea if you never liked Star Trek in the first place... but then again, why would you be proposing ideas for the franchise if you didn't like it?

The only way I could support it would be with the provisions that Nick Meyer was heavily involved, B&B get canned and that the budget be secure from fuckery. The first one I could see happening, but the last two...

I seriously can't accept it. If we're that desperate, it's time to can Star Trek and find/make another series with whom the theme of a civil war would fit.

In Season 4 of DS9, the original script for Paradise Lost featured the Defiant firing on a Vulcan ship.

Hence why I think it would work best in Terran Empire. Canon Trek it just wouldn't fit in with established modes of thought, even after DS9's Dominion War. The Federation might be more militaristic, but having it break down into actual civil war is quite remote IMHO.
